Mission 4-1: Brothers United
Mission 4-1: Brothers United thrusts players into one of the most anticipated battles of the Fourth Great Ninja War: the Uchiha brothers, Sasuke and Itachi, confronting the reanimated Kabuto Yakushi in his formidable Sage Mode. This is a tag-team battle that demands strategic coordination, precise timing, and a deep understanding of both Uchiha's unique abilities. Your objective is to defeat Kabuto, who will utilize his enhanced Sage Mode abilities, including powerful ninjutsu, evasive maneuvers, and chakra absorption.
Mission Objectives:
- Defeat Kabuto Yakushi (Sage Mode).
- Utilize the combined Ultimate Jutsu effectively.
Recommended Characters & Playstyle:
You will automatically control Sasuke Uchiha (Five Kage Summit) and Itachi Uchiha (Reanimation). Their synergy is paramount to success.
- Sasuke Uchiha: Focus on aggressive, close-to-mid range combat. His Chidori-based attacks are excellent for breaking guard and dealing burst damage. Utilize his Susano'o abilities for wider area control and defense.
- Itachi Uchiha: Itachi excels at mid-range combat, Genjutsu, and powerful Ninjutsu. His Amaterasu can inflict sustained damage, and his Tsukuyomi is a potent guard-breaking and combo-extending tool. Use his Susano'o for defensive maneuvers and powerful ranged attacks.
Phase 1: Initial Engagement & Guard Breaking
Kabuto starts the battle in his base form but will quickly transition into Sage Mode. Your primary goal in this phase is to establish dominance and learn Kabuto's attack patterns. He is highly evasive and will frequently use his Chakra Scalpel and various snake-based Ninjutsu.
- Aggressive Opening: Start with Sasuke. His Chidori Stream (Neutral Ninjutsu) is excellent for closing distances and can hit multiple times, making it good for guard pressure. Follow up with basic combos (e.g., Square x3-4, then Circle) to maintain pressure.
- Itachi's Genjutsu: Switch to Itachi when Kabuto creates distance. Itachi's Tsukuyomi (Up Ninjutsu) is a fantastic guard-breaking tool. If it connects, it leaves Kabuto vulnerable for a short period, allowing Sasuke to follow up with a full combo or a charged Chidori.
- Chakra Dash & Substitution: Kabuto will frequently use substitution jutsu and chakra dashes to evade. Be ready to counter-dash (L2 + X or R2 + X) to pursue him or use your own substitutions (L2 or R2) to avoid his counter-attacks.
- Support Attacks: Don't forget your support characters! Call in your partner (L1 or R1) to extend combos, break Kabuto's guard, or cover your retreat. Itachi's support attacks can stun, while Sasuke's can deal quick damage.
Phase 2: Dealing with Kabuto's Sage Mode
Once Kabuto enters Sage Mode, his resilience, attack power, and speed significantly increase. He gains access to powerful snake-based Ninjutsu, including the White Rage technique (a wide-area sound attack that stuns) and the ability to absorb chakra.
Kabuto's Sage Mode Abilities & Counters:
- Enhanced Durability & Attack: Kabuto becomes much harder to stagger. Focus on well-timed attacks and guard breaks.
- White Rage: This is a wide-area sound attack that will stun both brothers if caught. The visual cue is Kabuto charging a large, white energy sphere. When you see him preparing this, immediately chakra dash away or use a substitution. If you're too close, block, but be aware it can still break your guard.
- Chakra Absorption: Kabuto will occasionally attempt to absorb your chakra. This is telegraphed by him extending a snake arm towards you. Dodge this attack sideways or use a substitution. If he connects, you'll lose a significant portion of your chakra, hindering your ability to use Ninjutsu and Ultimate Jutsu.
- Evasive Maneuvers: Kabuto in Sage Mode is even more agile. Use your own chakra dashes to keep up the pressure. Itachi's Amaterasu (Down Ninjutsu) can be effective here, as its lingering flames can catch an evading Kabuto or force him to block, setting him up for a guard break.
Specific Strategies for Sage Mode:
- Guard Breaking: Kabuto's guard is significantly tougher in Sage Mode.
- Sasuke: Charge your Chidori (Neutral Ninjutsu) to its maximum for increased guard damage. His Kirin (Ultimate Jutsu) is also a powerful guard breaker if you can land it, but save your chakra for the combined Ultimate.
- Itachi: His Tsukuyomi (Up Ninjutsu) remains your best direct guard-breaking tool. Follow up with his Yasaka Magatama (Down Ninjutsu while in Susano'o, or Neutral Ninjutsu if not) for ranged pressure.
- Combined Pressure: Continuously switch between Sasuke and Itachi, using their respective guard-breaking Ninjutsu. When one brother lands a hit, immediately switch to the other for a follow-up combo, preventing Kabuto from recovering his guard.
- Stun & Combo: After a successful guard break or stun (e.g., from Tsukuyomi), unleash your most damaging combos.
- Sasuke: A full basic combo ending with Chidori Blade (combo finisher) or a charged Chidori.
- Itachi: A full basic combo ending with Amaterasu or Yasaka Magatama.
- Awakening: If you find yourself in a tight spot, consider using an Awakening.
- Sasuke's Susano'o: Provides increased defense and powerful ranged attacks. His Susano'o: Chidori is a devastating attack.
- Itachi's Susano'o: Offers similar defensive benefits and powerful ranged attacks with the Yasaka Magatama.
Phase 3: The Combined Ultimate Jutsu
As Kabuto's health dwindles, a prompt for the Combined Ultimate Jutsu will appear. This is a critical moment and often signals the final push to victory. The prompt usually appears when Kabuto's health is around 30-40%.
Executing the Combined Ultimate Jutsu:
- Charge Chakra: Ensure both Sasuke and Itachi have sufficient chakra. You'll need at least 100% chakra for the Ultimate Jutsu.
- Create an Opening: Kabuto is still dangerous at low health. Use a guard break (Tsukuyomi, charged Chidori) or a well-timed combo to stun him.
- Activate: When the prompt appears (usually Triangle x2, then Circle), execute it immediately while Kabuto is vulnerable. If you miss, you'll need to build chakra and create another opening.
- Cinematic QTE: The Combined Ultimate Jutsu will trigger a cinematic sequence. Be prepared for a Quick Time Event (QTE) where you'll need to press specific buttons in time to maximize damage and ensure the Jutsu connects successfully. Failing the QTE can significantly reduce the damage dealt.
The Combined Ultimate Jutsu, Blaze Release: Susano'o Kagutsuchi, is a visually stunning and incredibly powerful attack where both brothers unleash their Susano'o's power, combining Amaterasu flames with Sasuke's Kagutsuchi. This attack will deal massive damage and often conclude the battle.
Common Pitfalls & Tips:
- Chakra Management: Kabuto's chakra absorption can be devastating. Prioritize dodging this attack. Use chakra sparingly for Ninjutsu and save it for the Combined Ultimate.
- Support Gauge: Keep an eye on your support gauge. Using support attacks frequently can help maintain pressure and extend combos.
- Substitution Jutsu: Don't waste your substitutions. Kabuto's attacks are often fast, but many have clear tells. Save substitutions for his most damaging Ninjutsu or when you're caught in a long combo.
- Keep Moving: Standing still against Sage Mode Kabuto is a death sentence. Continuously move, dash, and jump to avoid his wide-area attacks and set up your own.
- Patience: Kabuto is a resilient opponent. Don't rush in blindly. Look for openings, exploit his recovery frames after his attacks, and coordinate your Uchiha brothers' abilities.
