On-Ball & Off-Ball Defense
Effective defense in NBA 2K24, both on-ball and off-ball, hinges on proper spacing and understanding player roles. Preventing fast breaks and denying help defense opportunities are key strategies. Guards have specific defensive responsibilities that differ from other positions.
Defense in 2K is entirely about spacing. You need appropriate spacing to disrupt offensive flow. If you are playing Park and are in a half-court set, you will want to always have at least 1 player in a corner. This spacing prevents the defense from playing help defense. If you are in the paint, your defender will be in the paint with you, putting them in perfect position to play help defense on the drive. Whether you are big or small, if you are standing in the paint, your team's offense probably isn't going well and it is your fault.
As a guard, it is your job to prevent fast break opportunities for the other team. When a 3-point shot goes up, do not go for the rebound. Instead, make sure no one is leaking out past you. You want to stay as long as possible in case there is an offensive rebound kick out opportunity, but you do not want to let the other team get further down court than you. If you try to treat the gameplay similar to Career, your teammates are going to stop giving you the ball.
