Devola & Popola Boss Strategy
The confrontation with the twin Shades, Devola and Popola, is a multi-phased battle that tests your adaptability and ability to manage multiple threats. This iconic fight takes place in the grand library of the Facade, a location that offers both beauty and danger. Initially, Devola and Popola will attack in tandem, using several coordinated assaults. Devola often favors rapid sword strikes, while Popola employs a mix of magical projectiles and area-of-effect spells. Their sature move is the Twin Dance, where they perform a synchronized attack pattern, making it difficult to find openings. During this phase, focus on dodging their individual attacks and looking for brief moments when one of them is recovering from an assault.
A key mechanic in this fight is the Energy Orb that they periodically summon. This orb will float around the arena, periodically releasing damaging energy waves. You can target and destroy this orb with your attacks, which will temporarily stun both Devola and Popola, creating a sificant damage window. Prioritize destroying the orb whenever it appears. Devola also has a powerful Spinning Slash that covers a wide area. This is telegraphed by her charging up and spinning her weapon. A well-timed dodge roll is essential to avoid this. Popola's Magic Barrage involves firing a series of homing projectiles. While they can be dodged, they can also be interrupted by hitting Popola with a strong attack or a well-aimed Dark Lance spell.
As the fight progresses, they will enter a more aggressive phase, often using a combined attack where they channel energy into a devastating beam. This attack has a long charge time and is indicated by a bright light emanating from them. The best strategy here is to sprint away from the arena or find substantial cover. If you have the Speed stat boosted, you can often outrun the beam. Consider equipping Words of Power that enhance your Magic Damage or provide MP regeneration, as spells are crucial for interrupting their casting and dealing with the Energy Orb. A common mistake is to focus too much on one twin, neglecting the other's attacks. Maintaining awareness of both Devola and Popola's positions and attack patterns is paramount. After defeating them, you will receive the Key Item required to progress further into the story.
