As you embark on your journey, you'll be focused on completing the story missions, which serve as the primary drivers for advancing the narrative and unlocking new areas. However, alongside story progression, your character will grow stronger through various means. Experience points are gained from defeating enemies and completing quests, which contribute to leveling up your character. Each level gained provides a small boost to your base stats, such as health and magic power, making you more resilient and capable in combat.
The most sificant aspect of character progression lies in the acquisition and upgrading of weapons. You will find or purchase various one-handed, two-handed, and spears, each with unique attack speeds, damage outputs, and combo potential. These weapons can be further enhanced at blacksmiths by using collected materials and a certain amount of gold. Upgrading a weapon not only increases its raw damage but also unlocks its full potential, often revealing a new, more powerful form of the weapon. Furthermore, the game features a unique "Word" system. By finding magical Words, you can attach them to your weapons, spells, and even your physical attacks. These Words provide passive bonuses, such as increased damage against certain enemy types, faster MP regeneration, or enhanced critical hit rates. Magic, or Seals, also is essential in your character's progression. As you progress through the story, you will acquire new Seals from your companion, Grimoire Weiss. Like weapons, Seals can also be enhanced through the Word system, allowing for further customization. For instance, attaching a Word to Dark Blast might increase its projectile speed or add a chance to stagger enemies. The game's des encourages multiple playthroughs, and with each subsequent playthrough, you retain certain upgrades and unlock new abilities, allowing for a more powerful and efficient experience as you work towards uncovering all four of the game's endings.
