Boss: Gamov
Gamov, the grotesque, multi-limbed demon, presents a significant challenge, especially on higher difficulties. His attacks are varied and punishing, but with careful positioning and understanding of his patterns, you can emerge victorious. This fight is less about raw damage and more about precise evasion and capitalizing on openings.
Recommended Loadout
- Weapon: Dragon Sword (Level 3 or higher): Its speed and versatility are crucial for hitting Gamov's weak points and quickly retreating. The Blade of the Archfiend is also an excellent choice if you have it.
- Ninpo: Inferno Ninpo: While not strictly necessary for damage, a well-timed Inferno can clear out the smaller enemies Gamov summons, giving you breathing room. Art of the Inazuma is also viable for quick bursts of damage if you can land it.
- Accessories: Armlet of the Sun: Increased attack power is always beneficial.
- Items:
- Great Devil Elixir (2-3): For emergency health recovery.
- Devil Elixir (3-5): For smaller health top-ups.
- Talisman of Rebirth (1): A lifesaver on higher difficulties, allowing you to revive with full health and Ninpo.
- Elixir of the Devil (1-2): To replenish Ninpo for clearing adds or emergency damage.
Phase 1: Ground Assault
Gamov begins by lumbering around the arena, primarily using his large arms to attack. His main attacks in this phase are:
- Ground Slam: He'll raise one or both arms and slam them down. This has a wide radius.
- Sweeping Attack: A horizontal sweep with one arm.
- Grab Attack: He'll try to grab Ryu, dealing heavy damage if successful.
Strategy:
- Stay Mobile: The key here is constant movement. Use your Wind Run (X + A) and evasive rolls to avoid his attacks.
- Target the Arms: Gamov's arms are his weak points in this phase. After he performs a ground slam or sweep, there's a brief window where his arm is vulnerable. Dash in, land a quick combo (e.g., XXY or XXXY with the Dragon Sword), and immediately dash out.
- Utilize Wall Attacks: If you find yourself near a wall, a Flying Swallow (forward + Y) from a wall run can be an effective way to quickly close distance and land a hit on his arms.
- Avoid the Grab: The grab attack is telegraphed by him extending his arm forward slightly before lunging. Dodge sideways immediately.
- Patience is Key: Don't get greedy. Land a few hits and retreat. This phase is about chipping away at his health until he transitions.
Phase 2: Projectile Barrage and Minions
Once Gamov has taken a significant amount of damage (roughly 30-40% of his health), he will retreat to the back of the arena and begin launching projectiles. He will also summon smaller, fast-moving insect-like demons to harass you.
Strategy:
- Clear the Adds: Your priority should be to eliminate the summoned enemies. They are quick and can easily interrupt your dodges or attacks. A well-placed Inferno Ninpo can clear them out efficiently. If you're conserving Ninpo, use quick, wide-sweeping combos like the Dragon Sword's "Flying Dragon" (XXXY) or "Thunderclap Rush" (XYY).
- Dodge Projectiles: Gamov will fire energy projectiles from his mouth. These can be dodged by rolling sideways. Pay attention to the timing.
- Counter-Attack with Projectiles: This is your primary damage phase. Once the adds are dealt with, equip your Bow. Aim for his head/mouth when he's charging or firing projectiles. Fully charged arrows (hold Y) deal significant damage.
- Shuriken/Windmill Shuriken: If you're out of arrows or prefer a quicker, less precise option, the Windmill Shuriken can also deal minor damage and interrupt his projectile attacks.
- Repeat: Continue clearing adds and firing arrows at Gamov's head until he takes enough damage to transition back to Phase 1 or enter his final phase. He may occasionally return to the front to perform a quick ground slam before retreating again.
Phase 3: Desperation and Final Assault
When Gamov's health is critically low (around 15-20%), he will become more aggressive. He might alternate between his ground attacks and projectile barrages more frequently, and the summoned enemies will be more numerous or appear more often.
Strategy:
- Conserve Ninpo (if possible): If you still have Inferno Ninpo, save it for clearing large groups of adds that might overwhelm you.
- Focus Fire: Whether he's on the ground or in the back, keep applying pressure. If he's close, use your Dragon Sword combos on his arms. If he's far, use your Bow on his head.
- Don't Panic: This is where many players make mistakes. Maintain your disciplined dodging and only attack when you have a clear opening.
- Utilize Ultimate Techniques: If you've been building up Ki, a well-timed Ultimate Technique with the Dragon Sword can deal massive damage and potentially finish him off quickly. Charge it up while dodging or after a successful combo.
- Use Remaining Elixirs: Don't hesitate to use your Great Devil Elixirs if your health drops dangerously low. A Talisman of Rebirth is your last resort.
By patiently observing his patterns, prioritizing add control, and exploiting his vulnerabilities, Gamov will eventually fall. Good luck, Ninja!
