These challenging encounters pit Ryu Hayabusa against waves of formidable enemies, often in secluded or difficult-to-reach areas. Successfully completing a Test of Valor rewards you with valuable items, including potent healing herbs and crucial upgrades that can sificantly bolster your chances of survival. Mastering their locations is key to efficient progression and unlocking the full potential of Ryu's arsenal.
The first Test of Valor can be found early in Chapter 2, "Burning Town." After navigating the initial streets and dispatching the first wave of fiends, look for a side path leading to a small courtyard. Here, you'll face a group of Greater Fiends. Defeating them will yield a Life of the Thousand Gods, a permanent health upgrade.
In Chapter 3, "The Depths," a Test of Valor awaits within the flooded caverns. After a particularly intense combat encounter with several fiends, keep an eye out for a hidden alcove accessible by a tricky jump. This area houses a Test of Valor that often includes a mix of ninjas and fiends. The reward here is typically a Spirit of the Devils, which increases your maximum Ninpo gauge.
As you progress, these trials become more demanding. Chapter 5, "The Castle of the Fiends," features a particularly notorious Test of Valor within the castle's inner sanctum.
