Walkthrough: Chapter 12: The Core

Welcome to Chapter 12, "The Core." This chapter throws you into the heart of the Imperial Palace, where the fiendish forces are at their strongest. Be prepared for intense combat and environmental puzzles. Make sure your inventory is stocked with Elixirs of Spiritual Strength and Great Devil Elixirs before proceeding.

Entering the Core

Upon entering the Core area, you'll immediately be confronted by a new enemy type: the Greater Fiend. These hulking beasts are incredibly resilient and deal heavy damage. Focus on dodging their slow, powerful attacks and counter with quick combos. The Dragon Sword's Flying Swallow is effective for chipping away at their health, but be wary of their grab attack.

  • Strategy: Utilize your Ninpo, especially Infernal Incantation, to clear groups of smaller enemies that often accompany the Greater Fiends.
  • Item: After defeating the initial wave, look for a chest containing a Talisman of Rebirth in the alcove to your right.

The Central Chamber

Proceed through the corridor until you reach a large, circular central chamber. This area is a gauntlet of enemies, including more Greater Fiends and several waves of Fiend Ninjas. The key here is crowd control and efficient use of your Ultimate Techniques.

  • Combat Strategy:
    • Prioritize the Fiend Ninjas first, as their projectiles can be a nuisance.
    • Use the Lunar Staff or Nunchaku for wide-sweeping attacks to keep enemies at bay.
    • Charge your Ultimate Techniques whenever possible, especially after absorbing essence from defeated enemies.
  • Exploration:
    • After clearing the chamber, locate the glowing switch on the far wall. Activating it will open a new path.
    • Before moving on, search the perimeter of the chamber. You'll find a Life of the Gods hidden behind some debris near the entrance you came from.

The Ascending Passage

The newly opened path leads to an ascending passage. This section is primarily a platforming challenge interspersed with enemy encounters. Watch out for falling debris and environmental hazards.

  • Platforming Tips:
    • Utilize Wall Run and Bird Flip to navigate the vertical sections.
    • Be mindful of the crumbling platforms; move quickly across them.
  • Enemy Encounters: You'll face a mix of Imps and Ghost Fish in this area. The Imps can be annoying with their ranged attacks, so take them out quickly with shurikens or the Bow.
  • Item: Halfway up the passage, on a small ledge to your left, you'll find a Great Devil Elixir.

The Core Reactor

At the top of the ascending passage, you'll arrive at the Core Reactor. This is a large, open area with a pulsating energy core in the center. Prepare for a significant battle.

  • Initial Encounter: You'll be immediately ambushed by two Red Dragon Fiends. These are powerful, fire-breathing enemies.
    • Strategy: Stay mobile and use the environment to your advantage. The Dragon Sword's Izuna Drop is highly effective against them once you've stunned them.
    • Ninpo: Art of the Inferno can deal significant damage if both are caught in the blast.
  • Post-Combat: Once the Dragon Fiends are defeated, the Core Reactor will become active, and a new path will open leading to the final confrontation of the chapter.
  • Collectibles: Before proceeding, scour the area around the Core Reactor.
    • On a raised platform to the left, you'll find a Spirit of the Devils.
    • Near the entrance to the next area, there's a chest containing a Jewel of the Demon Seal.
