Walkthrough: Chapter 16: The Fiendish Tower

Welcome, master ninja, to the penultimate challenge: The Fiendish Tower. This chapter is a gauntlet of your accumulated skills, testing your combat prowess, platforming precision, and resource management. Prepare for intense battles and a final ascent to the game's climax.

Initial Ascent and Fiend Encounters

You'll begin at the base of the towering structure. Your path is largely linear, but don't let that lull you into complacency. The tower is teeming with the most formidable fiends you've encountered thus far.

  • First Encounter: Immediately upon entering, you'll be swarmed by a mix of Red Imps and Black Spider Ninjas. Prioritize the Spider Ninjas to prevent them from overwhelming you with shuriken attacks. The Dragon Sword or Unlabored Flawlessness are excellent choices here for their wide-sweeping attacks.
  • Platforming Segment: After clearing the initial wave, look for a series of ledges and wall-run opportunities to ascend. Be mindful of occasional Purple Imps that may try to knock you off. Use your Flying Swallow to quickly dispatch them if they get too close.
  • Second Encounter: As you reach a wider platform, prepare for a confrontation with several Greater Fiends (Worm Fiends). These creatures are resilient and can deal heavy damage. Focus on isolating them and using powerful combos. The Dabilahro's heavy attacks or the Lunar's crowd control can be effective. Consider using a Ninpo spell like Inferno if you find yourself surrounded.

The Gauntlet of Guardians

The ascent continues through several distinct sections, each guarded by a specific type of fiend. Conserve your health and Ninpo where possible, but don't hesitate to use it if you're in danger.

The Ghoul Chamber

You'll enter a circular chamber with a central pillar. This area is home to a relentless wave of Ghouls. These enemies are fast and can grab you, so maintain your distance and use quick, evasive maneuvers.

  • Strategy: The Vigoorian Flail or Nunchaku are excellent for their speed and ability to hit multiple targets. Utilize Izuna Drop combos to clear groups efficiently. Keep an eye on your surroundings; more Ghouls will continuously spawn until a certain number are defeated.
  • Item Location: After clearing the chamber, check the alcoves around the perimeter. You should find a Great Spirit Elixir and a Talisman of Rebirth, crucial for the battles ahead.

The Berserker's Bridge

Following the Ghoul Chamber, you'll cross a narrow bridge. This is a prime location for an ambush by Berserkers. These heavily armored fiends are incredibly dangerous, capable of one-shotting you if you're not careful.

  • Strategy: The key here is patience and precision. Use the Dragon Sword's Ultimate Technique (charged attack) or the Unlabored Flawlessness's heavy attacks to break their guard. Alternatively, use the Wind Path to get behind them for critical strikes. Do NOT engage multiple Berserkers head-on. If you have any remaining Incendiary Shurikens, they can stun Berserkers, allowing for follow-up attacks.
  • Item Location: At the end of the bridge, before entering the next section, look for a small ledge to your right. You'll find a Devil Way Mushroom.

The Vortex Chamber and Final Ascent

The next major area is a large, open chamber with a swirling vortex in the center. This is where the difficulty truly ramps up.

  • First Wave: A combination of Bone Scorpions and Laser Fiends will attack. Prioritize the Laser Fiends to eliminate their ranged attacks, then deal with the Scorpions. The Scorpions are vulnerable to aerial attacks and can be easily dismembered.
  • Second Wave: After the initial wave, prepare for Paz Zazmas (Purple Flying Fiends) and more Black Spider Ninjas. The Paz Zazmas are annoying due to their flight and projectile attacks. Use your Bow to bring them down or Flying Swallow attacks.
  • Item Location: Before proceeding, carefully explore the edges of this chamber. There's often a Life of the Gods fragment hidden behind some debris or in a less obvious corner.
  • The Vortex: To progress, you'll need to wall-run and jump across the platforms surrounding the central vortex. This platforming sequence is challenging, with strong winds pushing you. Take your time and be precise with your jumps.

The Upper Levels and Boss Preparation

As you near the summit, the encounters become even more concentrated and dangerous.

  • Armored Fiend Gauntlet: Expect to face multiple Armored Fiends (the large, heavily armored humanoids) in tight corridors. The Unlabored Flawlessness or Dabilahro are your best bets for breaking their armor and dealing significant damage. Remember to block their powerful attacks and counter-attack when an opening appears.
  • Save Point and Merchant: Miraculously, you'll find a Save Point and a Muramasa Statue just before the final ascent to the boss. This is your last chance to stock up on healing items (Great Spirit Elixirs, Elixirs of Spiritual Life), Ninpo scrolls, and upgrade your weapons. Ensure your favorite weapon is fully upgraded. If you have any Karma left, consider purchasing a Talisman of Rebirth if you don't already have one.
  • Final Climb: The very last section involves a series of vertical wall runs and jumps, often with minimal footing. There are no enemies here, but a misstep means a long fall. Take a deep breath and execute your movements carefully.

Once you reach the very top, prepare for the final confrontation. Good luck, Ninja!
