Walkthrough: Chapter 9: The Military District

Welcome to Chapter 9, Ninja! The Military District is a stark contrast to the previous areas, filled with heavily armed soldiers, tanks, and a new, formidable enemy type. Precision and strategic use of your Ninpo and projectile weapons will be key to your survival here.

Initial Assault and First Checkpoint

  • As soon as the chapter begins, you'll be dropped into a chaotic street. Immediately engage the soldiers. These aren't your typical grunts; they're better armored and carry assault rifles.
  • Prioritize targets: The soldiers with rocket launchers are a major threat. Use your Bow or Shurikens to take them out from a distance before they can fire.
  • Utilize the environment: The numerous cars and debris can provide cover. Use wall runs and Izuna Drops to quickly dispatch groups.
  • After clearing the initial wave, proceed forward. You'll encounter a checkpoint statue shortly. Save your game and restock if necessary.

Tank Encounter and Path Forward

  • Moving past the first checkpoint, you'll inevitably run into a tank. This is your first major obstacle.
  • Strategy for Tanks:
    • Projectiles are Key: Your primary method of damaging the tank is with explosive projectiles. The Incendiary Shurikens are highly effective. Aim for the turret or the rear of the tank.
    • Stay Mobile: The tank's main cannon is devastating. Continuously run, wall run, and roll to avoid its shots. Never stand still.
    • Close-Quarters Option: If you're out of projectiles, you can get close and attack the tank's treads with your melee weapon, but this is significantly riskier. Focus on ranged attacks.
  • After destroying the tank, the path ahead will open. Be prepared for more soldier encounters.

The Alleyway and the New Threat: Armored Fiends

  • You'll enter a narrow alleyway after the tank. This area introduces a new, dangerous enemy: the Armored Fiend.
  • Characteristics of Armored Fiends:
    • These fiends are heavily armored, making direct attacks less effective.
    • They are fast and aggressive, often performing quick charges and powerful melee attacks.
    • They can also throw projectiles.
  • Strategy for Armored Fiends:
    • Explosives and Ninpo: Like the tanks, these fiends are vulnerable to explosives. Incendiary Shurikens or Explosive Arrows work well. Art of the Inferno is also very effective for staggering them and dealing significant damage.
    • Counter-Attacks: Their attacks are often telegraphed. Learn their patterns and use counter-attacks (like the Reverse Wind) to create openings.
    • Izuna Drop: Once their armor is sufficiently damaged or they are stunned, the Izuna Drop is a powerful finisher.
  • Clear the alleyway, collecting any dropped items.

Inside the Barracks

  • You'll eventually find an entrance leading into a military barracks building.
  • First Floor: Expect more soldiers and potentially another Armored Fiend. The tight corridors can make combat challenging, so use wall attacks and Ninpo strategically.
  • Item Location: In one of the offices on the first floor, look for a Talisman of Rebirth hidden behind a desk or in a locker. This is a crucial item for later boss fights.
  • Second Floor: Head upstairs. You'll likely encounter more resistance.
  • Key Item: On the second floor, you'll find a Military ID Card. This is essential for unlocking the next area. It's usually on a desk or a fallen soldier.

Accessing the Control Room

  • With the Military ID Card, backtrack slightly to a locked door you passed earlier. Use the card to open it.
  • This leads to a control room. Prepare for a significant fight upon entering.
  • Control Room Battle: You'll face a combination of soldiers, rocket launcher troops, and at least one Armored Fiend. The confined space makes this difficult.
  • Prioritize: Take out the rocket launcher soldiers first, then focus on the Armored Fiend. Use your best Ninpo (Art of the Inferno or Art of the Ice Storm) if you're overwhelmed.
  • After clearing the room, activate the console or switch within to open the main gate outside, allowing you to progress further into the district.

Exiting the Barracks and Final Stretch

  • Exit the barracks building. The main gate you just opened will be visible.
  • As you approach the gate, be ready for one final wave of enemies, possibly including another tank or multiple Armored Fiends.
  • Once the area is clear, proceed through the now-open gate. This will trigger a cutscene and conclude Chapter 9.

Remember to consistently save your game at every Dragon Statue and manage your inventory. The Military District demands a more tactical approach than previous chapters. Good luck, Ninja!
