Base Building & Automation
Transform barren planets into thriving outposts with No Man's Sky's robust base building system. Learn to construct intricate structures, harness resources, and automate production lines to create efficient and personalized interstellar havens.
Base building in No Man's Sky is more than just creating a shelter; it's about establishing a presence, a hub for your operations, and a testament to your journey. From simple shelters to sprawling industrial complexes, the tools provided allow for immense creativity and functional des. Coupled with automation, your bases can become self-sufficient powerhouses.
Getting Started with Base Building:
Your journey into base building begins with the Base Computer. This essential piece of technology allows you to claim a plot of land and serves as the core of your base. The Base Computer Archives questline, initiated by the Base Computer itself, will guide you through the fundamental blueprints needed for construction, power, and basic resource gathering.
Essential Building Components:
- Structural Components: These include walls, floors, roofs, and doors, allowing you to shape the physical form of your base. Materials like Carbon and Ferrite Dust are commonly used.
- Power Generation: Bases require power to function. Options include:
- Solar Panels: Generate power during the day.
- Wind Turbines: Generate power when wind is present.
- Geothermal Generators: Require proximity to a geothermal vent.
- Fusion itors/Antimatter Reactors: High-output power sources requiring advanced crafting.
- Resource Extractors: Place these on resource deposits (e.g., Carbon, Ferrite Dust, Copper, Sodium) to automatically gather materials. They require power and Supply Containers to store the extracted resources.
- Refiners: Crucial for processing raw materials into more valuable or usable forms. You can craft Portable Refiners or build larger, stationary ones.
- Storage Containers: Essential for organizing and storing vast quantities of resources. Each container has 20 slots, and you can link them together to create a shared inventory accessible from any container.
- Teleporters: Allow for quick travel between your base and other discovered teleporters, including space stations.
Automation and Efficiency:
The true power of base building lies in automation. By linking components with Conduits, you can create complex systems:
- Automated Mining: Place Extractors on resource deposits. Connect them via Conduits to Supply Containers. Ensure the Extractor is powered.
- Resource Processing: Connect Supply Containers holding raw materials to Refiners using Conduits. Output from Refiners can then be piped to other Refiners or Storage Containers.
- Farming: Construct Hydroponic Trays or plant flora directly in the ground. Connect harvested resources to Refiners or Storage Containers.
- Logic Gates: For more advanced automation, use Logic Gates to control the flow of items or power based on specific conditions. For example, you can set up a system to only activate a refiner when a certain amount of raw material is available.
Tips for Effective Base Building:
- Location, Location, Location: Choose a planet with desirable resources, a pleasant climate, and good sentinel activity (or lack thereof, depending on your preference). Proximity to electromagnetic hotspots is crucial for powering automated systems.
- Plan Your Layout: Think about the flow of resources and power. Group similar functions together.
- Utilize Verticality: Don't be afraid to build upwards or downwards to maximize space and create interesting dess.
- Lighting is Key: Good lighting not only improves aesthetics but also helps navigate your base, especially at night or underground.
- Experiment: The beauty of No Man's Sky base building is the freedom to experiment. Don't be afraid to tear down and rebuild sections as you learn and discover new possibilities.
With these principles in mind, you can create bases that are not only visually stunning but also highly functional, supporting your exploration and resource needs across the galaxy.
