Exosuit Defense
Your Exosuit is your primary defense against the myriad threats of No Man's Sky, from environmental hazards to aggressive fauna and the ever-watchful Sentinels. Maintaining and upgrading your Exosuit's defensive capabilities is paramount for survival.
The Exosuit has several layers of defense. The most immediate are its Hazard Protection systems, which shield you from environmental damage. Beyond that, your Exosuit can be equipped with a Shield Generator for protection against combat damage.
Hazard Protection:
- Function: Protects against extreme temperatures (hot and cold), toxic atmospheres, and radiation.
- Recharge: Primarily with Sodium or Sodium Nitrate.
- Environmental Types: There are four distinct hazard types: Thermal (Heat), Thermal (Cold), Toxin, and Radiation. You will need specific upgrades for each.
- Upgrades: Exosuit upgrades can sificantly increase the effectiveness and duration of your hazard protection. Prioritize upgrades for environments you frequent.
Shield Generator:
- Function: Absorbs incoming damage from creatures, Sentinels, and pirates.
- Recharge: Shields recharge automatically over time after taking damage.
- Upgrades: Shield Generator upgrades increase the capacity of your shields and their recharge rate. S-Class upgrades offer the best performance.
Combat Strategies on Foot:
- Utilize Cover: Rocks, terrain, and structures provide excellent cover from enemy fire.
- Strafe and Dodge: Constant movement makes you a harder target for enemies.
- Target Weak Points: Some creatures and Sentinels have glowing weak spots that deal critical damage.
- Environmental Hazards: Lure enemies into hazardous areas like toxic pools or electrical storms to damage them.
- Multi-Tool Combat: Equip and upgrade your Multi-Tool with effective combat modules like the Bolt Caster or Pulse Spitter.
Exosuit Upgrade Modules:
You can install various technology modules in your Exosuit's inventory to enhance its defensive capabilities:

Sentinel Encounters:
Sentinels are robotic guardians that patrol planets. They will attack if you disturb wildlife, mine excessively, or engage in combat. If you are detected, try to break line of sight by hiding in your ship, a cave, or behind large structures. If the alert level rises too high, it's often best to leave the planet.
