Crafting & Technology
Crafting is a fundamental pillar of survival and progression in No Man's Sky. From essential survival tools to advanced starship components, the ability to create new items and technologies is crucial. Understanding the crafting system, its recipes, and the resources required will empower you to overcome any obstacle.
Your journey begins with basic crafting. Your Multi-Tool is your primary crafting interface for many early-game items. You'll need to gather raw materials like Carbon, Ferrite Dust, and Oxygen from your surroundings. These can be refined into more complex components. For example, Carbon can be refined into Condensed Carbon, which is often used in more advanced recipes.
As you progress, you'll acquire blueprints for a vast array of items. These blueprints can be learned through missions, found in manufacturing facilities, or purchased from vendors. Blueprints are categorized into different areas, including Exosuit upgrades, Starship components, Base building parts, and consumables. Prioritize learning blueprints that will help you survive extreme environments, improve your combat capabilities, or enhance your exploration potential.
Technology modules are a key aspect of crafting. These are often installed directly into your Exosuit, Starship, or Multi-Tool to provide new abilities or enhance existing ones. For instance, the Plasma Launcher for your Multi-Tool or the Warp Drive for your Starship are crafted technologies. Many advanced technologies require rare or refined materials, such as Wiring Looms, Lubricant, or Antimatter.
The Refiner is another essential crafting tool. It allows you to process raw materials into more refined components. For example, you can refine Copper into Pure Copper, or Salt into Chlorine. Understanding the various refining recipes is key to efficiently producing the materials needed for advanced crafting. There are portable refiners you can craft and deploy, as well as larger refiners that can be built at your base.
Base building introduces a whole new layer of crafting. You'll need to craft structural components like walls, floors, and roofs, as well as functional modules like power generators, teleporters, and storage containers. Each of these requires specific resources and blueprints. Mastering the crafting system is not just about survival; it's about shaping your experience and building the tools and habitats you need to explore the galaxy on your own terms.
