Black Holes & Galactic Core
Venture towards the center of the galaxy by utilizing the mysterious power of Black Holes. These cosmic anomalies serve as shortcuts, allowing you to traverse vast distances and reach the Galactic Core much faster than conventional warp travel. However, passing through a black hole comes with its own set of risks and consequences.
Black Holes are naturally occurring phenomena in No Man's Sky. They can be found by exploring star systems, listening for their unique audio cue, or by using specific technologies like the Sal Booster with the 'Black Hole Compass' option. Once located, approaching a black hole will present you with a warning, indicating the potential dangers of entering its gravitational pull.
The process of using a Black Hole:
- Locating a Black Hole: Use your Analysis Visor to scan for anomalies, or utilize the Sal Booster's Black Hole Compass. Some missions or quests may also direct you to one.
- Approaching the Anomaly: Fly towards the black hole. Your starship's systems may begin to malfunction as you get closer.
- Entering the Black Hole: Once you are close enough, you will be prompted to enter the black hole. This will initiate a dramatic visual sequence and transport your ship.
- Warping Effect: Upon exiting the black hole, your starship's Hyperdrive will be damaged, requiring repairs. This is a common consequence of passing through.
- New Location: You will find yourself in a new, often distant, star system, sificantly closer to the Galactic Core.
The Galactic Core is the ultimate destination for many explorers. Reaching it requires multiple jumps, and black holes can drastically reduce the number of jumps needed. However, each passage through a black hole damages one of your installed technologies, so be prepared for repairs.
To mitigate the risks:
- Repair Kits: Always carry Warp Cell components and potentially spare technology modules to repair any damaged systems immediately after exiting a black hole.
- S-Class Modules: If possible, use S-class modules for your Hyperdrive and other critical systems. These are more resilient and may take less damage, or be easier to repair.
- Backup Technology: Consider having backup technology modules in your freighter or base storage in case a critical component is damaged.
Here's a table summarizing Black Hole effects:
| Effect | Description | Mitigation |
|---|---|---|
| Hyperdrive Damage | One Hyperdrive technology module is damaged. | Carry Warp Cell components and spare modules for immediate repair. |
| System Jump | Transported to a new, often distant, star system. | Use the new location to continue towards the Galactic Core. |
| Potential for Rare Systems | May lead to systems with unique resources or discoveries. | Be prepared to explore and document new findings. |
Black holes are a powerful tool for rapid galactic traversal, but they demand preparedness and a willingness to manage the consequences of their use.
