Maxing Out Upgrades & Inventory
To truly conquer the vastness of space in No Man's Sky, maximizing your Exosuit, Starship, and Multi-Tool inventory and upgrades is paramount. This involves a strategic approach to resource gathering, technology acquisition, and understanding the best places to find upgrades.
The Exosuit offers the most sificant inventory expansion opportunities. You can increase its cargo and general inventory slots by finding Expansion Modules on planets. These modules are often found in Supply Caches, Crashed Freighters, or as rewards from certain missions. Each Exosuit upgrade costs more than the last, so prioritize finding them early.
Exosuit Inventory Expansion
Exosuit inventory slots are divided into two categories: General Inventory and Cargo Inventory. Cargo slots offer more space for stackable resources and are ideal for hauling large quantities of materials.
- Finding Expansion Modules:
- Supply Caches: Look for these on planets, often near buildings or points of interest. They require a small amount of Carbon to open.
- Crashed Freighters: These can be located using your ship's scanner. They often contain valuable salvage, including Exosuit Expansion Modules.
- Planetary Archives and Monoliths: Interacting with these can sometimes yield Expansion Modules.
- Space Stations: Occasionally, a Space Station might have an Exosuit vendor selling Expansion Modules.
- Cost of Upgrades: The cost in Units and Nanites increases with each subsequent upgrade. Prioritize acquiring these early in your playthrough to maximize your hauling capacity.
Starship and Multi-Tool Upgrades
While Exosuit inventory is expanded through modules, Starship and Multi-Tool upgrades are primarily acquired through technology blueprints and purchased modules.
- Starship Upgrades:
- Technology Modules: Purchase S-class modules from Starship Dealers in Space Stations or from pilots visiting your freighter.
- Blueprint Acquisition: Learn blueprints from Manufacturing Facilities, Operations Centres, or by completing certain missions.
- Storage Augmentation: Use these items to increase the number of technology slots on your Starship.
- Multi-Tool Upgrades:
- Class Upgrades: You can upgrade the class of your Multi-Tool at a Multi-Tool station in Space Stations.
- Technology Modules: Similar to Starships, purchase S-class modules from vendors.
- Inventory Slots: While not directly upgradable like the Exosuit, finding a higher-class Multi-Tool with more slots is the primary way to increase its capacity.
Optimization Strategies
Prioritize S-Class: Always aim for S-class upgrades for your Starship and Multi-Tool, as they offer the best performance boosts.
Resource Management: Efficiently manage your inventory by using Refineries to process raw materials into more valuable components. Store excess resources in your Freighter or base storage containers.
Nanite Farming: Nanites are crucial for purchasing high-class technology modules. Consider farming Nanites by refining Pugneum or completing Nexus missions.
