The universe of No Man's Sky is dotted with ancient ruins, remnants of long-lost civilizations that hold valuable secrets and knowledge. Discovering these ruins and deciphering their glyphs is key to understanding the game's lore and unlocking powerful communication abilities. This section guides you through finding ancient ruins and learning the alien glyphs.

Ancient ruins are scattered across most planets. They often appear as large, weathered structures with unique architectural styles. Finding them can be achieved through several methods:

Finding Ancient Ruins:

• Planetary Scans: Use your Analysis Visor to scan the terrain for points of interest. Ancient ruins are often marked as 'Ancient Ruins' or similar desations.
• Sal Boosters: Deploy a Sal Booster and use the 'Locate Nearby Structures' function. This can reveal the location of ruins, Manufacturing Facilities, and other points of interest.
• Monoliths: Interacting with Monoliths, which are often found near ruins, can sometimes reveal the location of other nearby ruins.
• NPCs: Certain NPCs, particularly travelers, may offer clues or direct you towards ancient sites.
• Questlines: Some main story quests or side missions may guide you to specific ancient ruins.

Learning Glyphs:

Once you find an ancient ruin, you'll typically encounter a Monolith. Interacting with the Monolith presents you with a riddle or a choice related to the lore of the alien race that built it. Successfully answering the Monolith's challenge will reward you with one alien glyph. You need to find and interact with Monoliths at different ruins to collect all 16 glyphs.

• The 16 Glyphs: Each glyph represents a word or concept in the alien languages. Learning them allows you to input specific addresses into Portals, enabling travel to distant, specific star systems.
• Monolith Interaction: Pay attention to the context of the Monolith's question. The correct answer is usually related to the alien race's history, culture, or philosophy. If you answer incorrectly, you may not receive a glyph, but you can try again at another ruin.
• Traveler Encounters: Occasionally, you will encounter 'Travelers' on planets. These are spectral figures who, when interacted with, will reveal the location of a nearby Monolith, often one that grants a glyph.

Using Glyphs and Portals:

After collecting all 16 glyphs, you can find and activate a Portal. Portals are massive gateways that require glyphs to be input into their interface. By entering specific glyph sequences, you can travel to any star system in the galaxy, provided you know its address.
