Space Exploration & Navigation

The vastness of space is the playground of No Man's Sky, and mastering its exploration and navigation is key to uncovering its secrets. From charting courses between star systems to maneuvering within them, understanding your starship's capabilities and the tools at your disposal will make your journey smoother and more rewarding.

Your starship is your primary vehicle for traversing the galaxy. It's equipped with a Hyperdrive for interstellar jumps and a Pulse Engine for sub-light travel within star systems. Navigation is facilitated by the Galactic Map, which allows you to view star systems, plan routes, and select destinations based on various criteria.

Navigating the Galactic Map:

  • Accessing the Map: Open the Galactic Map from your starship's cockpit or the quick menu.
  • Star System Information: Hovering over a star system displays its name, class (e.g., G-type, F-type), economy type, conflict level, and the resources it contains.
  • Route Planning: You can plot courses based on distance, resource type, or mission objectives. The map will show the required Warp Fuel for each jump.
  • Filters: Utilize filters to find specific types of systems, such as those with high trade value, low conflict, or specific resources needed for crafting.
  • Galactic Core: The map clearly indicates the direction and proximity to the Galactic Core.

In-System Navigation:

  • Pulse Engine: Engage the Pulse Engine for faster travel within a star system. It consumes Di-hydrogen Jelly or Tritium.
  • Warp Drive: Used for jumping between star systems. Requires Warp Cells or Warp Hypercores.
  • Planetary Landings: Select a planet from the Galactic Map or by flying towards it in system and initiating a landing sequence.
  • Space Stations: These act as hubs for trading, repairs, and mission acquisition. They are marked on your HUD and the Galactic Map.
  • Freighters: Your own freighter or those belonging to NPCs can be located and traveled to.

Advanced Navigation Tools:

  • Sal Booster: Can be deployed on planets to locate nearby points of interest, including distress sals, ancient ruins, and resource deposits.
  • Discovery Scanner: Found on your starship, it reveals nearby celestial bodies and points of interest.

By understanding these tools and mechanics, you can efficiently explore the galaxy, discover new worlds, and reach your desired destinations with confidence.
