Portal Glyphs & Travel
Portal Glyphs are mystical symbols that act as coordinates within the universe of No Man's Sky, allowing players to travel to specific planets and systems. These glyphs are essential for accessing player-created bases, rare resource locations, and community-shared discoveries. Mastering the use of Portal Glyphs opens up a new dimension of exploration and interaction.
How to Find Portal Glyphs:
Glyphs are learned by interacting with Traveller NPCs found on planets. Look for these hooded figures, often marked by a distinctive icon on your scanner. When you interact with them, you'll have the option to "Learn Language" or "Ask for Directions." Asking for directions will reveal the location of a Traveller Grave. Interacting with the grave will teach you one of the 16 available Portal Glyphs.
The Portal Device:
Portal devices are massive, ancient structures found on certain planets. They are typically located at the end of long, straight landing strips. To activate a Portal, you must first find all 16 Glyphs. Once activated, the Portal will display a sequence of 12 glyphs.
Using Portal Glyphs for Travel:
- Locate a Portal: Find a Portal device on a planet.
- Activate the Portal: Interact with the Portal. You will see a sequence of 12 glyph slots.
- Input Glyphs: Enter the 12 glyphs in the correct order. Each glyph corresponds to a specific location or system. You can find glyph sequences shared by other players online or through community resources.
- Initiate Travel: Once all 12 glyphs are entered, the Portal will activate, creating a wormhole that transports you to the destination system.
Important Notes on Portal Travel:
- One-Way Trip: Portal travel is typically one-way. You will arrive at the destination system, but you cannot immediately return through the same portal. You will need to warp out or summon your freighter to return.
- No Base Building Access: You cannot build bases directly at Portal locations.
- System Information: The glyph sequence determines the destination system. Different combinations lead to different planets and star systems.
- Sharing Coordinates: Players often share glyph sequences for planets with rare resources, unique discoveries, or desirable bases.
