Saving & Loading Game Progress

Safeguarding your progress in No Man's Sky is essential for a smooth and uninterrupted journey across the galaxy. The game features several methods for saving your progress, ensuring that your hard-earned discoveries and resources are never lost.

The primary way to save your game is by using Save Points or Beacons, which can be found on planets or constructed as part of your base. Additionally, the game automatically saves your progress when you exit your ship, enter your base, or interact with certain terminals. Understanding these mechanics ensures you can always pick up where you left off.

Manual Saving Methods

Save Points: These are small, portable devices that can be found scattered across planets, often near points of interest. Interacting with a Save Point will immediately save your game.
Communication Beacons: You can craft and deploy Communication Beacons on planets. Interacting with a deployed beacon will also save your game. These are useful for marking locations and saving progress simultaneously.
Base Save Stations: If you have built a base, you can construct a Save Station within it. This provides a dedicated and permanent save point for your base.

Automatic Saving

No Man's Sky also implements several automatic save triggers:

Exiting Your Starship: The moment you exit your starship on a planet or space station, the game typically performs an auto-save.
Entering Your Base: Upon entering a pre-existing or newly constructed base, an auto-save is usually triggered.
Interacting with Terminals: Using certain terminals, such as Galactic Trade Terminals, Refineries, or Specialist Terminals, can also initiate an auto-save.
Completing Missions: Progressing through or completing missions, especially main story quests, often results in an auto-save.

Loading Your Game

To load your game:

From the main menu, select 'Load Game'.
You will see a list of your available save files, typically ordered by most recent.
Select the save file you wish to load and confirm.

Save Frequently: Especially before undertaking risky activities like exploring dangerous planets, engaging in combat, or attempting complex base builds.
