Vehicles & Transportation
Navigate the vast landscapes and star systems of No Man's Sky with a diverse array of vehicles and transportation methods. From agile exocraft to powerful starships, master efficient travel to explore every corner of the galaxy.
Efficient transportation is key to maximizing your exploration and resource gathering in No Man's Sky. Whether you're traversing a planet's surface, crossing vast oceans, or soaring through the vacuum of space, the game offers several vehicles and methods to get you where you need to go, each with its own strengths and uses.
Ground Vehicles (Exocraft):
Exocraft are specialized vehicles that can be summoned to your location on any planet once you have built their respective Exocraft Bays. These bays require blueprints, typically obtained through the Construction Research Unit at your base or through specific questlines.
- Exocraft Geobay: This is the base building component required to summon your Exocraft.
- Exocraft Scanner: An upgrade for your Exocraft that can detect nearby resources, buildings, and points of interest.
- Exocraft Cannon: For offensive capabilities, allowing you to engage hostile fauna or sentinels.
- Exocraft Boosters: Enhance speed and maneuverability.
Types of Exocraft:
| Exocraft | Primary Use | Key Features |
|---|---|---|
| Roamer | General exploration, balanced speed and handling. | Versatile, good for most terrains. |
| Colossus | Heavy cargo transport, slow but capacious. | Massive inventory space, ideal for resource hauling. |
| Nomad | Fast traversal over water and difficult terrain. | Hovers, can glide over water and small obstacles. |
| Minotaur | Combat and extreme environments, powerful. | Jetpack capabilities, strong defenses, built-in weapons. |
Starships:
Your starship is your primary means of interstellar travel and your main tool for space combat. Each starship has unique stats for speed, maneuverability, hyperdrive range, and inventory slots. Upgrading your ship with S-class modules for Hyperdrive, Shields, and Weapons is crucial for long-distance travel and combat effectiveness.
- Hyperdrive: Essential for jumping between star systems. Requires Warp Cells or Warp Hypercores to fuel.
- Pulse Engine: Used for faster travel within a star system.
- Launch Thrusters: Required to take off from planets. Can be refueled with Star Metal or Ferrite Dust.
Other Transportation Methods:
- Teleporters: Found at space stations, planetary archives, and player-built bases. Allow for instant travel between discovered locations. You can build your own teleporter at any base.
- Freighters: Large capital ships that can be purchased or claimed. They act as mobile bases, allowing you to store vast amounts of resources, build facilities, and even launch your starships from their hangar. Freighters can also warp between star systems.
- Player Bases: Building bases strategically across different planets and systems can serve as important waypoints for travel.
- Summoning Your Ship: You can summon your starship to your location on a planet using the quick menu, provided you are in an open area.
Efficient Travel Strategies:
- System Hopping: Use your starship's hyperdrive to jump between systems, then use the Pulse Engine for planetary travel.
- Exocraft for Surface: For extensive planetary exploration, especially on large or hazardous worlds, summon an Exocraft. The Minotaur is excellent for combat and extreme conditions, while the Colossus excels at hauling large quantities of resources.
- Teleporter Network: Build a comprehensive teleporter network across your bases and use space station teleporters to quickly move between your most important locations.
- Freighter Warping: Once you have a freighter, you can use it to warp to systems you've visited, effectively extending your reach without needing to be in your starship.
By mastering the various vehicles and transportation methods available, you can sificantly enhance your ability to explore, gather resources, and complete missions across the vast and varied landscapes of No Man's Sky.
