Progression and Goals
Noita is a game of emergent systems, and while there isn't a strict linear progression, understanding common goals and efficient pathways is crucial for survival and eventual victory. This section outlines key progression milestones, strategic objectives, and how to achieve them.
Early Game: Survival and Resource Acquisition (Mines to Hiisi Base)
Your initial hours in Noita will be dominated by simply staying alive and gathering essential resources. Focus on these immediate goals:
- Wand Acquisition:
- Mines: Prioritize finding wands with good damage spells (e.g., Magic Missile, Spark Bolt, Energy Orb) and utility spells (e.g., Digging Bolt, Black Hole if you're lucky). Look for wands with multiple spell slots and a low cast delay.
- Coal Mines: This area often provides more powerful wands. Seek out wands with Chainsaw or Drill for excellent digging and damage, or Lightning Bolt for high burst.
- Gold Collection:
- Every enemy killed drops gold. Prioritize collecting it to purchase spells and wands from Holy Mountains.
- Break open gold veins in the Mines and Coal Mines.
- Be wary of the Gold Is Forever perk early on, as it can be a trap if you can't survive the increased enemy density.
- Perk Selection:
- Holy Mountain: After each biome, you'll enter a Holy Mountain. Here, you can heal, buy spells/wands, and choose one of three perks.
- Essential Early Perks:
- Extra Life: Incredibly valuable, gives you a second chance.
- Tinker With Wands Everywhere: Allows you to edit wands outside Holy Mountains, a massive quality-of-life improvement.
- Explosion Immunity: Protects against self-damage and environmental hazards.
- Toxic Immunity / Fire Immunity: Depending on the biome you're entering, these can be lifesavers.
- Avoid early: Glass Cannon (unless you're an expert), Kammi (can be dangerous).
- Health Upgrades:
- Heart Upgrades: These are found in specific locations in each biome, usually hidden behind destructible terrain or guarded by tougher enemies. Always prioritize finding these.
- Potions: Keep an eye out for Healthium potions, which provide a significant heal.
Mid Game: Power Spikes and Exploration (Hiisi Base to The Vault)
Once you've established a decent wand and some perks, your focus shifts to building powerful wand combinations and exploring the more dangerous biomes.
Wand Crafting Fundamentals
This is where Noita truly shines. Understanding spell modifiers and spell wrapping is key.
- Damage Modifiers: Combine spells like Spark Bolt with Damage Plus, Critical Hit, or Multishot for significant damage increases.
- Utility Spells:
- Black Hole: Essential for digging through dense materials and finding secrets.
- Teleport Bolt / Short-Range Teleport: Excellent for mobility and escaping dangerous situations.
- Chainsaw / Drill: Low cast delay spells that can be used to reduce the cast delay of an entire wand, creating rapid-fire machines. Place them early in your spell order.
- Spell Wrapping: Spells on a wand "wrap around" from the end to the beginning. Use this to your advantage by placing trigger spells (e.g., Spark Bolt With Trigger) at the end of a sequence to fire spells from the beginning of the wand.
- Projectile Modifiers: Spells like Homing, Bouncing Burst, and Divide By can drastically alter projectile behavior and damage output.
Navigating Deeper Biomes
- Hiisi Base:
- Threats: Hiisi snipers, flamethrower Hiisi, and the dreaded Hiisi Base itself (highly flammable).
- Strategy: Use cover, prioritize ranged enemies, and be extremely careful with fire. A good digging wand can bypass many dangerous encounters.
- Underground Jungle:
- Threats: Acidic creatures, flying enemies, and the occasional spider.
- Strategy: Acid immunity is highly recommended. Wands with wide area-of-effect spells or piercing projectiles are effective.
- The Vault:
- Threats: High-health, armored enemies like the Tank and various Golems.
- Strategy: You need high-damage wands with piercing or explosive capabilities. Spells like Plasma Beam, Lightning Bolt, or well-modded Energy Orbs are excellent here.
- Secrets: The Vault often contains powerful wands and unique spells. Explore thoroughly but cautiously.
Late Game: The Temple of the Art and Beyond (Minä's Journey)
The true "end" of Noita is subjective, but defeating the final boss, Kolmi, is a primary objective for many. However, the game offers much more.
Preparing for Kolmi
- The Temple of the Art: This biome is a gauntlet of powerful mages and elemental enemies.
- Perks: Projectile Shield, Repulsion Field, and various immunities (fire, electricity, explosion) are invaluable.
- Wands: You should have at least one "killing machine" wand capable of sustained high damage, and a utility wand for digging and mobility.
- Kolmi, the Final Boss:
- Location: Deep within the Temple of the Art.
- Attacks: Kolmi has multiple phases, firing projectiles, summoning minions, and creating hazardous terrain.
- Strategy:
- Damage: Focus all your high-damage spells on Kolmi. Spells like Plasma Beam Cross, Giga Sawblade, or highly accelerated Energy Orbs are excellent.
- Mobility: Stay mobile with Teleport Bolt or Short-Range Teleport to dodge attacks.
- Defense: If you have Projectile Shield or Repulsion Field, they will significantly reduce incoming damage.
- Minions: Clear out Kolmi's summoned minions quickly to avoid being overwhelmed.
Post-Kolmi Goals (New Game+ and Secrets)
Defeating Kolmi unlocks New Game+, where enemies are stronger, and new challenges await. Beyond that, Noita is famous for its vast array of secrets and hidden content.
- New Game+:
- Increased Difficulty: Enemies have more health and deal more damage.
- New Perks: Some unique perks only appear in NG+.
- Goal: Defeat Kolmi again, or delve deeper into the world.
- The Work (Endless World):
- After Kolmi, you can continue digging downwards into "The Work," an endless series of increasingly difficult biomes.
- Goal: See how far you can go, collect powerful spells and perks.
- Parallel Worlds:
- By digging far enough to the left or right of the main world, you can enter "Parallel Worlds." These are copies of the main world with fresh Holy Mountains and Heart Upgrades.
- Strategy: Use a powerful digging wand (e.g., Black Hole or Matter Eater) to breach the dense rock.
- Goal: Accumulate an absurd number of perks and health upgrades to become virtually unkillable.
- Orbs of True Knowledge:
- There are 11 Orbs scattered across the world, some in extremely dangerous or hidden locations.
- Goal: Collecting all 11 Orbs and taking them to the final boss room unlocks a special ending.
- Alchemy and Flasks:
- Experiment with combining different liquids to create new substances.
- Goal: Discover powerful alchemical reactions, create infinite sources of useful liquids (e.g., Healthium, Lava to Blood).
- Bosses and Mini-Bosses:
- Many optional bosses exist throughout the world, guarding powerful spells or items.
- Goal: Seek out and defeat these challenges for unique rewards.
