The Coal Pits are notorious for fire. Enemies often drop flammable liquids or explode on death. Always be aware of your surroundings. If you catch fire, quickly find water or use a water spell. The 'Fire Immunity' perk is incredibly valuable if you find it. Avoid shooting explosive barrels unless you have a clear escape route or are immune to explosions. The environment itself can be your enemy here.
