Endings
Welcome, Observer, to the critical juncture of your investigation. The choices you make, and the paths you pursue, will ultimately determine the fate of Daniel Lazarski and the outcome of the entire narrative. Unlike some games, Observer doesn't feature wildly divergent endings based on a single, late-game choice. Instead, your ending is a culmination of your interactions, your dedication to the investigation, and the specific items you choose to prioritize or ignore throughout the game.
There are two primary endings you can achieve, each with subtle variations depending on your thoroughness. We'll detail how to unlock each, along with key decision points and item locations.
The "Good" Ending: The Truth Revealed
To achieve the most complete and satisfying conclusion, you must diligently pursue every lead and uncover all major narrative threads. This ending requires a high degree of exploration and interaction with the environment and its inhabitants.
Key Steps & Collectibles:
- Complete All Main Investigations: Ensure you follow all primary objectives, from the initial apartment complex investigation to tracking down Adam. Do not rush through any section.
- Fully Explore Each Apartment: After each major "Mind-Dive" sequence, revisit the physical apartment. Look for hidden data pads, audio logs, and environmental clues. These often provide crucial context for the overall story.
- Collect All "Family Photos": There are several fragmented family photos scattered throughout the game. While not strictly mandatory for the ending, collecting them all provides a deeper understanding of Daniel's past and his relationship with Adam, enriching the narrative significantly.
- Photo Fragment 1: Found in Adam's apartment (A-204) early in the game, on a desk near the computer.
- Photo Fragment 2: Located in Helena's apartment (B-107), on a small table in the living area after her Mind-Dive.
- Photo Fragment 3: Discovered in Amir's apartment (C-103), tucked away in a drawer in the bedroom.
- Photo Fragment 4: In the basement area, near the maintenance room, often obscured by clutter. Use your EM Vision to highlight it.
- Engage in All Optional Dialogues: Speak to every accessible tenant multiple times. Some will offer additional insights or side quests that, while seemingly minor, contribute to your overall understanding of the complex's dark secrets. Pay particular attention to the Janitor and the Tattoo Artist.
- Locate the "Chiron Database" Entry: This crucial piece of information is found late in the game, typically within the restricted server room or a similar high-security area. It provides vital context for the true nature of the Chiron Corporation and Adam's involvement.
- Make the "Correct" Final Choice: Without spoiling the exact nature of the choice, when presented with a critical decision regarding Adam's fate, choose the option that prioritizes uncovering the truth and exposing the conspiracy over personal revenge or immediate gratification. This will usually involve a more analytical or empathetic approach.
The "Bad" Ending: Ignorance is Bliss (or Doom)
This ending occurs if you rush through the game, miss significant clues, or make choices that prioritize immediate action over thorough investigation. While still concluding the story, it leaves many questions unanswered and provides a less complete picture of the events.
Triggers & Missed Opportunities:
- Skip Optional Areas: If you consistently bypass optional apartments, side rooms, or hidden passages, you'll miss vital clues.
- Ignore Data Pads and Audio Logs: Failing to pick up or listen to these environmental storytelling elements will prevent you from piecing together the full narrative.
- Avoid Optional Dialogues: Not engaging with tenants or cutting conversations short will limit your understanding of the complex's inhabitants and their connections to the larger mystery.
- Fail to Collect Key Items: Missing items like the "Chiron Database" entry or a significant number of the "Family Photos" will lead to a less informed final decision.
- Make the "Incorrect" Final Choice: When faced with the critical decision regarding Adam, choosing the option that is more impulsive, vengeful, or self-serving will typically lead to this ending. This choice often results in a more abrupt and less resolved conclusion.
Remember, Observer is a game about atmosphere and narrative depth. Taking your time and exploring every nook and cranny will not only lead to a more fulfilling ending but also enhance your overall experience in this dystopian future.
