Data Chips and various Documents are not equipment in the traditional sense, but they are vital informational items that drive the narrative and provide crucial lore. Data chips are small, electronic storage devices that can contain encrypted messages, personal logs, or critical data. They are often found embedded in bodies, within computer systems, or hidden in secure locations. Once collected, Daniel can often 'read' or 'process' them, revealing new objectives or expanding on existing case files. Documents, as detailed in the 'Side Quests & Activities' section, include newspaper clippings, letters, corporate memos, and medical records. These items provide deep insights into the game's world, its characters, and the overarching conspiracy. Both data chips and documents are automatically added to your case file (accessible via Tab) upon collection. It's highly recommended to review them regularly, as they often contain subtle clues or direct instructions that might be easy to miss during the initial pickup. Use your EM-Vision (1) for data chips and Bio-Vision (2) for documents (especially if they have fingerprints or other organic traces) to help locate them in the environment.
