Connection Issues & Solutions

Outriders is an online-enabled game, and stable connectivity is crucial for a smooth co-op experience and for accessing all game features. Players may encounter various connection issues, ranging from slow matchmaking to complete disconnections.

Server Status: The most common cause of widespread connection problems is server-side issues. Developers occasionally perform maintenance or experience unexpected outages.

  • Solution: The first step is always to check the official Outriders social media channels or community forums for announcements regarding server status. If servers are down or undergoing maintenance, there is little a player can do but wait for them to be restored.

Matchmaking Problems: Difficulty finding other players for co-op or long matchmaking times can be frustrating.

  • Solutions:
    • Restart the Game/Console: A simple restart can often resolve temporary glitches affecting matchmaking services.
    • Check NAT Type: On consoles, an "Open" NAT type is generally preferred for optimal online connectivity. A "Moderate" or "Strict" NAT type can limit your ability to connect with others. You can usually adjust your router's settings to achieve an Open NAT.
    • Verify Game Files (PC): On PC, using the game launcher (e.g., Steam) to verify the integrity of game files can fix corrupted data that might be impacting connectivity.
    • Crossplay Settings: If you are experiencing issues with crossplay, try toggling the crossplay setting off and on in the game's options menu.

Disconnections During Gameplay: Being kicked from a session or experiencing frequent disconnects can disrupt progress, especially during challenging encounters like those in the "Eye of the Storm" endgame activity.

  • Solutions:
    • Wired Connection: If possible, use a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi. This provides a more stable and faster connection, reducing the likelihood of packet loss and disconnections.
    • Router Restart: Rebooting your router and modem can often resolve temporary network issues.
    • Bandwidth Usage: Ensure that other devices on your network are not consuming excessive bandwidth (e.g., large downloads, streaming high-definition video).
    • Firewall/Antivirus: On PC, ensure that your firewall or antivirus software is not blocking Outriders' network traffic. You may need to add an exception for the game.

Lag and Latency: High ping or latency can make combat feel unresponsive and difficult.

  • Solutions: Choosing a matchmaking region closer to your physical location can help. Playing during off-peak hours might also result in lower latency. Ensuring your internet service provider is not experiencing local network congestion is also important.
