Upgrading & Rerolling Gear
Upgrading and rerolling gear are essential mechanics in Outriders that allow players to enhance the effectiveness of their weapons and armor, tailoring them to their specific playstyle and build. As you progress through the game and tackle more challenging content, the base stats of your equipment will become insufficient. The upgrade system allows you to increase the level of your gear, which in turn raises its core attributes such as weapon damage, armor protection, and resistance values. This process requires specific crafting resources, with higher-level upgrades demanding rarer materials like Titanium. It's a continuous cycle of acquiring better gear, upgrading it, and then seeking out even more powerful equipment to repeat the process.
The Upgrade Gear function, accessible at any Camp or through the inventory screen, allows you to increase the item level of your weapons and armor. Each upgrade costs a certain amount of Scrap, Iron, and sometimes Titanium, depending on the current item level and rarity of the gear. For example, upgrading a common weapon from level 10 to level 11 might only cost Scrap, while upgrading a legendary weapon from level 40 to level 41 could require a sificant amount of Titanium. This system is crucial for keeping your gear competitive, especially when you're attached to a particular weapon or armor set with desirable mods. prioritize upgrading their primary weapons and the armor pieces that provide the most sificant defensive or offensive bonuses relevant to their build. A common mistake is to neglect upgrading gear, leading to a sificant power deficit against tougher enemies.
Complementing the upgrade system is the Reroll Gear function, which allows you to change one of the existing attributes on a piece of equipment. This is invaluable for optimizing your gear, as not all random rolls will be ideal. For instance, if a weapon has a high damage roll but a low critical hit chance, you can reroll the critical hit chance to potentially acquire a higher value. The cost of rerolling increases with the item level and rarity of the gear, and each reroll offers a new random value within the possible range for that attribute. This system encourages players to farm for gear with the best base stats and then use rerolling to fine-tune them. rerolling only changes one attribute at a time, and you cannot reroll the same attribute multiple times in a row without first rerolling a different one. This mechanic provides a strategic layer to gear acquisition, allowing players to make good gear great by carefully selecting which attributes to reroll.
