Scaling & Difficulty in Co-op — Outriders Guide

Understand scaling and difficulty in Outriders co-op. Adjust challenge levels to optimize loot drops and team synergy during expeditions.

The scaling and difficulty in Outriders' co-op mode are dynamically adjusted to ensure a challenging yet fair experience for all players, regardless of their World Tier or individual progression. The game employs a system where enemy health, damage, and numbers scale based on the number of players in a squad. This means that a solo player will face a different level of challenge than a full squad of three. The World Tier system further refines this difficulty, with higher World Tiers offering greater rewards but also presenting sificantly tougher enemies. Players must strategically choose their World Tier based on their gear, build, and co-op synergy to avoid being overwhelmed. Successfully completing missions at higher World Tiers is key to acquiring better loot and progressing through the game's endgame content, such as Expeditions.

When playing in co-op, the game's AI adapts to the presence of multiple players. For instance, if you are playing with two other Outriders, the game will increase the overall health and damage output of enemies to compensate for the increased firepower and utility your team brings. This scaling is not always linear and is desed to keep encounters engaging. A common mistake players make is attempting to push World Tiers too aggressively without adequate gear or a well-coordinated build. This can lead to frustrating wipes and slow progression. It is often more efficient to maintain a World Tier that allows for consistent clears, even if it means slightly lower loot rarity per run, before attempting to increase it. Effective communication and understanding each other's roles within the squad are paramount to overcoming the scaled challenges. For example, a Devastator focusing on close-range tanking will have a different role than a Technomancer providing long-range support, and the enemy scaling will account for this combined threat.
