Submachine Guns Guide

Submachine Guns (SMGs) in Outriders are the kings of close-quarters combat, boasting exceptionally high fire rates and rapid damage output. They excel in situations where enemies are closing in quickly or when clearing out groups of weaker foes in tight spaces. Their effectiveness is directly tied to their ability to maintain a consistent stream of bullets on target, making them ideal for aggressive, in-your-face playstyles. A well-modded SMG can melt through even heavily armored opponents in seconds.

When choosing an SMG, the fire rate is often the most critical stat to consider, as it directly translates to higher damage per second (DPS). However, recoil management and magazine size also play a sificant role in sustained combat. Weapons with larger magazines or mods that increase magazine capacity, like Extended Mag, allow for longer firing bursts before needing to reload, which is crucial in fast-paced engagements. For example, an SMG with a base of 30 rounds can quickly become a sustained damage threat with an extended magazine, allowing players to focus on aiming and dodging rather than frequent reloads.

SMGs benefit greatly from mods that enhance their close-range lethality and sustain. Mods that increase critical hit damage are highly valuable, as landing headshots with a rapid-fire weapon can result in massive damage spikes. Mods that apply status effects, such as Freeze or Slow, can also be incredibly potent on SMGs, as the high fire rate allows these effects to proc frequently, controlling the battlefield. For a Trickster, an SMG with the Damage Link mod can be devastating, as it allows a portion of the damage dealt to one enemy to be applied to others nearby, synergizing with the Trickster's ability to quickly engage multiple targets. Similarly, for a Devastator, an SMG with mods that boost damage against enemies at close range, like Close Range Damage, can complement their tanky, aggressive approach. The rapid application of damage from an SMG can also be used to trigger certain weapon mods more consistently, such as those that grant bonus damage after a kill.
