Understanding Damage Scaling
Damage scaling in Outriders is a multifaceted system that combines several key factors, including your character's stats, gear, weapon mods, and enemy resistances. At its core, your damage output is influenced by your primary stats, which vary depending on your chosen class. For example, an Anomaly Power stat is crucial for Technomancers and Pyromancers, directly boosting the effectiveness of their abilities. Conversely, a Trickster or Devastator might prioritize Weapon Damage and close-range critical hit bonuses. Gear plays a pivotal role, with each piece of armor and weapon contributing base stats and offering mod slots that can further enhance your damage. A weapon with a high base damage stat, like a Legendary LMG, will naturally hit harder than a common pistol, even before considering mods.
Weapon mods and skill mods are where sificant damage amplification can occur. Mods like "Stasis Rounds" can add crowd control, indirectly increasing damage by allowing for easier targeting, while mods like "Burning Rounds" can apply a damage-over-time effect, stacking with direct weapon damage. Similarly, skill mods can drastically alter the performance of your abilities. For instance, a Pyromancer might use a mod that causes Heatwave to ricochet, hitting multiple targets, or a mod that increases the duration and damage of the Burn status effect. Enemy resistances also play a crucial role; some enemies may have higher resistance to certain damage types, requiring you to switch weapons or focus on abilities that exploit their weaknesses. For example, heavily armored Hulks might be resistant to ballistic damage but vulnerable to Anomaly-based attacks. Understanding these interactions and building your character around synergistic mods and stats is key to overcoming the toughest challenges, such as the high-level Hunts or the final boss encounters.
