Hooktail is the first major boss of the game. She has high HP and powerful physical attacks. Her main weakness is her aversion to crickets. If you have a Cricket item (found in the castle or bought in Petalburg), use it during the battle to significantly lower her defense. Hooktail can also heal herself, so focus your attacks. Mario's Jump attacks are effective, and Koops' Shell Toss can deal consistent damage. Guarding against her attacks is crucial to minimize damage. If you run out of crickets, focus on dealing consistent damage and using Star Power for special moves. Keep your HP up with items.
