Shine Sprite Locations
Collecting Shine Sprites is crucial for upgrading your partners' abilities, making them more effective in battle. Each upgrade costs three Shine Sprites, so diligent searching is highly recommended! This guide will detail the location of every Shine Sprite in the game, organized by chapter for your convenience.
Prologue: A Rogue's Welcome
- Rogueport Plaza:
- After arriving in Rogueport, head left from Professor Frankly's house. You'll see a large pipe. Use your handy Paper Mode ability to slip through the grate to the right of the pipe. The Shine Sprite is waiting for you there.
- Once you gain the Hammer ability, return to Rogueport Plaza. Look for a stack of crates near the entrance to the sewers. Smash them with your Hammer to reveal another Shine Sprite.
- Rogueport Sewers:
- In the first room of the sewers, after descending the pipe from Rogueport Plaza, you'll find a Shine Sprite hidden behind a large block. Use your Hammer to break the block and claim your prize.
- Further into the sewers, after crossing the first body of water with Koops's shell toss, you'll enter a room with several pipes. Take the pipe leading to the background. The Shine Sprite is tucked away in this hidden area.
Chapter 1: Castle and Dragon
- Petalburg:
- Upon entering Petalburg, head to the rightmost part of town. You'll spot a Shine Sprite behind a large bush. Use Koops's shell to retrieve it.
- Shhwonk Fortress:
- After defeating the enemies in the first room of Shhwonk Fortress, look for a small alcove on the left wall. Use Paper Mode to slip into it and grab the Shine Sprite.
- Hooktail Castle:
- In the main hall of Hooktail Castle, after the initial encounter with the Koopa Troopas, head left. You'll find a Shine Sprite hidden behind a pillar.
- After acquiring the Paper Airplane ability, return to the room with the large gap that previously blocked your path. Use your new ability to glide across. The Shine Sprite is on the other side, near the entrance to the next area.
- In the room with the moving blocks, after solving the puzzle to reach the upper level, look for a hidden block on the right side. Jump to hit it and reveal a Shine Sprite.
Chapter 2: The Great Boggly Tree
- Boggly Woods:
- As you enter Boggly Woods, head right until you reach a large tree stump. Use Koops's shell to hit a hidden block above the stump, revealing a Shine Sprite.
- After gaining Flurrie as a partner, return to the area with the large, thorny vines. Use Flurrie's Gale Force ability to blow away the vines, revealing a hidden path and a Shine Sprite.
- The Great Boggly Tree:
- Inside the Great Boggly Tree, in the room with the rotating platforms, navigate to the topmost platform. The Shine Sprite is located on a small ledge to the left.
- After rescuing the Punies and gaining access to the lower levels, you'll find a Shine Sprite in a hidden alcove behind a waterfall. Use Paper Mode to slip through.
Chapter 3: Of Glitz and Glory
- Glitzville:
- In the main Glitzville area, head to the right side of the Glitz Pit entrance. You'll see a Shine Sprite floating above a stack of crates. Use a Spring Jump (or Goombella's Tattle on the crates to reveal a hidden block for a boost) to reach it.
- After completing your first fight in the Glitz Pit, return to the locker room. Check behind the lockers on the far right for a hidden Shine Sprite.
- Glitz Pit:
- During your ascent through the Glitz Pit ranks, after defeating the Koopinator, return to the audience seating area. Use Paper Mode to slip behind the large poster on the back wall, revealing a secret room with a Shine Sprite.
Chapter 4: For Whom the Bell Tolls
- Twilight Town:
- Once you arrive in Twilight Town, head to the far right of the town. You'll find a Shine Sprite hidden behind the well.
- After the townspeople turn into pigs, return to the area near the entrance. Use Flurrie's Gale Force to reveal a hidden path behind a large tree, leading to a Shine Sprite.
- Creepy Steeple:
- In the main entrance hall of Creepy Steeple, after the initial encounter with the Boos, head to the right. Use Paper Mode to slip through a crack in the wall, revealing a hidden room with a Shine Sprite.
- After acquiring the Super Hammer, return to the room with the large cracked block. Smash it to reveal a hidden passage and a Shine Sprite.
Chapter 5: The Key to Pirates
- Keelhaul Key:
- Upon landing on Keelhaul Key, head to the far left of the beach. You'll find a Shine Sprite partially buried in the sand. Use your Hammer to dig it up.
- After gaining Bobbery as a partner, return to the area with the large rock formations. Use Bobbery's Bomb ability to destroy a cracked rock, revealing a hidden cave with a Shine Sprite.
- Pirate's Grotto:
- Inside Pirate's Grotto, in the room with the flowing water, look for a small ledge on the right side. Use Paper Mode to slip across the water and reach the Shine Sprite.
- After defeating the Blooper, return to the room where you found the Skull Key. Look for a hidden block on the ceiling. Jump to hit it and reveal a Shine Sprite.
Chapter 6: 3 Days of Excess
- Poshley Heights:
- In Poshley Heights, head to the right side of the train station. You'll find a Shine Sprite hidden behind a large flower bed.
- After gaining access to the Poshley Sanctum, look for a small alcove on the left side of the main hall. Use Paper Mode to slip into it and grab the Shine Sprite.
- Excess Express:
- On the Excess Express, in the dining car, look under one of the tables for a hidden Shine Sprite. You may need to use Paper Mode to squeeze underneath.
- After the train stops due to the "incident," exit your cabin and head to the very front of the train. The Shine Sprite is located on the engine car.
Chapter 7: Mario Shoots the Moon
- Fahr Outpost:
- In Fahr Outpost, head to the far right of the village. You'll find a Shine Sprite behind the large ice statue.
- After gaining Ms. Mowz as a partner, return to the area near the entrance. Use Ms. Mowz's Kiss Thief ability on the large block of ice to reveal a hidden Shine Sprite.
- Moon Base:
- On the Moon Base, in the first room after landing, look for a small platform on the left side. Use a Spring Jump to reach it and claim the Shine Sprite.
- After activating the main console, return to the room with the large energy field. Use Paper Mode to slip through a small gap in the wall on the right, leading to a hidden area with a Shine Sprite.
Chapter 8: The Thousand-Year Door
- Palace of Shadow:
- In the Palace of Shadow, in the room with the rotating platforms and spikes, navigate to the upper-right platform. The Shine Sprite is located on a small ledge.
- After acquiring the Ultra Hammer, return to the room with the large cracked block on the floor. Smash it to reveal a hidden passage and a Shine Sprite.
- In the room with the multiple doors, after solving the puzzle to open the correct path, check behind the leftmost door for a hidden Shine Sprite.
