The Atlas of Worlds: Your Endgame Hub
Upon completing the main campaign of Path of Exile 2, your journey truly begins in the Atlas of Worlds. This expansive endgame system is your primary source of progression, challenging content, and valuable rewards. Think of it as a vast, interconnected network of maps, each offering unique challenges and opportunities for character growth.
Unlocking the Atlas
- Complete Act 10: The first step is to defeat the final boss of Act 10 and speak with Commander Kirac in the Epilogue. He will grant you access to your personal Map Device.
- First Map Drop: Your initial maps will drop from monsters in Act 10 zones. Look for items with the "Map" tag and a distinct red border.
- Map Device Activation: Place a map into your Map Device in your hideout and activate it to open portals to that map's unique zone.
Understanding Map Tiers and Progression
Maps are categorized by Tiers, ranging from 1 to 16. Higher tier maps offer greater difficulty, more dangerous monsters, and significantly better rewards, including higher item level drops and increased currency generation.
- White Maps (Tiers 1-5): These are your starting point. Focus on completing bonus objectives (killing the map boss) to unlock adjacent maps on the Atlas.
- Yellow Maps (Tiers 6-10): The difficulty ramps up here. You'll start encountering more complex map modifiers and stronger unique bosses.
- Red Maps (Tiers 11-16): This is where the true challenge lies. Expect highly dangerous encounters, requiring a well-optimized build and strong gear.
Map Modifiers and Crafting
Before entering a map, you can enhance its difficulty and rewards by applying various currency items:
- Orb of Transmutation: Turns a normal map into a magic map, adding 1-2 random modifiers.
- Orb of Alteration: Rerolls the modifiers on a magic map.
- Orb of Chance: Can upgrade a normal map to a rare map, adding 4-6 random modifiers.
- Orb of Alchemy: Turns a normal map into a rare map, adding 4-6 random modifiers. This is the most common way to run maps for optimal rewards.
- Chaos Orb: Rerolls all modifiers on a rare map. Use this to find beneficial modifiers or avoid detrimental ones for your build.
- Vaal Orb: Corrupts a map, potentially adding a powerful modifier, increasing its tier, or transforming it into a unique map. Be warned, corruption is irreversible and can brick a map.
Strategy: Always aim to run rare maps once your build can comfortably handle them. The increased quantity and rarity of items, along with higher monster density, far outweigh the added difficulty.
Conquer the Conquerors: Regional Bosses
As you progress through the Atlas, you'll encounter the Conquerors of the Atlas. These powerful bosses reside in specific regions of the Atlas and must be defeated to unlock higher-tier maps and earn valuable Watchstones.
Conqueror Encounter Steps:
- Influence Spreading: Run maps within a specific region of the Atlas. As you complete maps, you'll see the Conqueror's influence spread across the region.
- Citadel Spawns: After enough influence has accumulated, a Citadel will appear on one of the maps in the influenced region. This map will have a unique icon.
- Slaying the Conqueror: Enter the Citadel map and defeat the Conqueror. Each Conqueror has unique mechanics and attack patterns.
- Watchstone Acquisition: Upon defeating a Conqueror, they will drop a Watchstone. These items are crucial for upgrading the tier of maps within their respective regions.
There are four Conquerors: Al-Hezmin, the Hunter; Baran, the Crusader; Drox, the Warlord; and Veritania, the Redeemer. Each drops a different colored Watchstone. Collect all Watchstones to unlock the highest tiers of maps.
Maven and the Elderslayers: Pinnacle Content
Beyond the Conquerors, the true endgame challenge awaits with The Maven and the Elderslayers. These encounters represent the pinnacle of Path of Exile 2's difficulty and offer some of the game's most coveted rewards.
Engaging with The Maven:
- Maven's Invitation: After defeating multiple Conquerors, The Maven will begin to observe your progress. Eventually, she will drop Maven's Invitations from certain map bosses.
- The Maven's Crucible: Use a Maven's Invitation in your Map Device to open portals to The Maven's Crucible, where you will face multiple map bosses simultaneously.
- Maven Boss Fight: After completing enough Invitations, you will earn the right to challenge The Maven herself. This is a multi-phase, highly complex boss encounter.
Rewards: Defeating The Maven grants access to powerful unique items, exclusive crafting materials, and the ability to unlock further endgame content.
The Elderslayers: A New Threat
The Elderslayers are a new set of formidable bosses that emerge as you delve deeper into the Atlas. Details on their specific mechanics and how to encounter them will be revealed as the game progresses, but expect them to be on par with or even surpass the difficulty of the Conquerors and The Maven.
Anticipated Strategy: Similar to Conquerors, you will likely need to run specific maps or complete certain objectives within designated regions to draw out and challenge each Elderslayer. Prepare for unique boss mechanics and a significant gear check.
Delving into the Azurite Mine: Endless Exploration
The Azurite Mine offers an entirely different kind of endgame experience: endless, procedurally generated delves. Accessed via the Mine Encampment, this content focuses on exploration, resource gathering, and challenging encounters in the dark.
Delve Progression:
- Sulphite Collection: To power your Crawler and explore the mine, you need Sulphite, which drops from Sulphite Veins found in regular maps.
- Mine Encampment: Speak with Niko in your hideout or in the Mine Encampment to access the Delve.
- Charting a Path: Use your Sulphite to chart a path for your Crawler to new nodes on the Delve map. These nodes can contain monsters, Azurite veins, or unique encounters.
- Azurite Upgrades: Collect Azurite to upgrade your Crawler's light radius, resistance to darkness, and various other useful perks at the Mine Encampment.
- Darkness Mechanics: The mine is shrouded in darkness. Straying too far from your Crawler's light will rapidly deplete your life and energy shield. Use flares to create temporary light sources and dynamite to destroy obstacles or open hidden paths.
Rewards: Delving offers unique crafting materials, exclusive unique items, and a steady stream of currency. Deeper delves yield significantly better rewards but also present much greater challenges.
Heist: Grand Robberies
The Heist mechanic introduces a rogue-like element to the endgame, focusing on stealth, planning, and executing elaborate robberies.
Executing a Heist:
- Contract Acquisition: Find Heist Contracts as drops in regular maps. These contracts specify the target, location, and required rogue skills.
- Rogue Harbour: Travel to the Rogue Harbour, a hidden town where you can hire various rogues with unique skills (e.g., Lockpicking, Demolition, Brute Force).
- Planning the Heist: Select a contract and assign appropriate rogues. Ensure your rogues' skills meet the contract's requirements.
- Infiltration and Escape: Enter the Heist location, navigate security, disable traps, and steal the target item. The challenge lies in managing alert levels and escaping with your loot before lockdown.
- Grand Heists: Collect Blueprint items to plan and execute larger, multi-wing Grand Heists, offering significantly greater rewards and more complex challenges.
Rewards: Heists are a prime source of unique items, specialized crafting materials, and valuable currency. They also offer exclusive enchantment opportunities for your gear.
