Quest: The Lord's Labyrinth
The Lord's Labyrinth is a pivotal and challenging quest in Path of Exile 2, serving as the proving ground for all Exiles seeking to ascend and unlock powerful enchantments. This guide will walk you through the intricacies of Izaro's domain, from initial entry to claiming your well-deserved rewards.
Accessing the Labyrinth
To gain entry to the Labyrinth, you must first locate six Trial of Ascendancy zones scattered throughout the campaign acts. Each trial presents a unique environmental hazard puzzle. Completing a trial grants you a Labyrinth Tablet Fragment. Once you have all six fragments, they will automatically combine into a Labyrinth Tablet, which is consumed upon entering the Labyrinth.
- Trial Locations (Act 1-3 Examples):
- Act 1: The Lower Prison (Spike Traps)
- Act 2: The Crypt (Level 1) (Blade Traps)
- Act 2: The Chamber of Sins (Level 2) (Sawblade Traps)
- Act 3: The Crematorium (Furnace Traps)
- Act 3: The Catacombs (Dart Traps)
- Act 3: The Imperial Gardens (Spinning Blade Traps)
- Preparation is Key: Before entering, ensure your character is adequately geared and your resistances are capped. Potions, especially Granite Flasks or Basalt Flasks for physical damage reduction, are highly recommended. Consider bringing a Quicksilver Flask for navigating traps.
Navigating Izaro's Domain
The Labyrinth's layout changes daily, but its core mechanics remain consistent. You will traverse a series of interconnected zones, each filled with traps, monsters, and puzzles, culminating in three encounters with Izaro.
Labyrinth Mechanics & Strategies
- Traps: The Labyrinth is infamous for its deadly traps. Learn their patterns and timings.
- Spike Traps: Appear and retract. Move when they are down.
- Blade Traps: Spin in a fixed pattern. Time your movement between blades.
- Sawblade Traps: Move along fixed paths. Use safe zones between their passes.
- Dart Traps: Fire projectiles in a cone. Stay out of their firing arc.
- Furnace Traps: Emit bursts of fire. Wait for the flame to recede.
- Spinning Blade Traps: Cover a large area. Look for gaps in their rotation.
- Darkshrine Buffs: Throughout the Labyrinth, you'll encounter Darkshrines. Interacting with them can grant beneficial buffs, debuffs, or even alter the Labyrinth's layout. Always read the description carefully before activating. Some common beneficial buffs include "Increased Movement Speed," "Reduced Trap Damage," or "Extra Labyrinth Keys."
- Labyrinth Keys: These special keys are dropped by unique Labyrinth Guardians or found in hidden chests. They are essential for opening Izaro's Treasure Chests after defeating him. Aim to collect at least 3-4 keys per run.
- Puzzles: Some areas may feature simple puzzles, such as activating a series of switches in the correct order or finding a hidden path. These often lead to secret passages or additional treasure.
Izaro Encounters: The Emperor's Trials
You will face Izaro three times during your Labyrinth run. Each encounter presents a unique challenge, often influenced by the mechanics active in the preceding Labyrinth zone. Understanding these mechanics is crucial for success.
First Izaro Encounter
Izaro will often be accompanied by one or more of his Lieutenants or empowered by a specific Labyrinth mechanic.
- Strategy: Focus on understanding the active mechanic. If he's shielded by Gargoyles, destroy them first. If Essence Fonts are empowering him, disable them. Prioritize dodging his frontal cone attacks and ground slams.
Second Izaro Encounter
This encounter builds upon the first, often introducing a new mechanic or intensifying an existing one.
- Strategy: Be mindful of persistent effects from the first encounter. For example, if you didn't disable Conduits in the first phase, they might still be active and empowering Izaro, making him tougher. Use the environment to your advantage, kiting him around pillars or obstacles.
Third Izaro Encounter (Final Battle)
The final confrontation combines all previous mechanics and introduces Izaro's full arsenal of abilities.
- Strategy: This is where your preparation pays off. Ensure all empowering mechanics are disabled before engaging. Izaro will unleash powerful area-of-effect attacks and summon additional adds. Maintain high mobility, use your defensive cooldowns, and focus on burst damage during his vulnerable phases. After his defeat, a portal to the Ascendant's Plaza will open.
Rewards: The Ascendant's Plaza
Upon defeating Izaro for the final time, you enter the Ascendant's Plaza. This area offers your hard-earned rewards:
- Ascendancy Altar: Interact with this altar to allocate your Ascendancy Points. These are crucial for defining your character's specialization and power.
- Enchantment Device: Use this device to apply powerful Labyrinth Enchantments to your helmet, gloves, or boots. The enchantment you receive is random but always specific to the item slot.
- Izaro's Treasure Chests: Use your collected Labyrinth Keys to open these chests. They contain several valuable items, including unique gear, rare currency, and sometimes even Divine Orbs or Exalted Orbs. The more keys you have, the more chests you can open.
Completing the Labyrinth is a significant milestone in your Exile's journey, unlocking potent character progression options. Master its challenges, and the rewards will be immense!
