Quality of Life Enhancements
Path of Exile 2 introduces a host of quality of life improvements designed to streamline your gameplay experience, reduce tedious micromanagement, and allow you to focus more on the thrilling combat and deep character customization. This section details key enhancements and how to best utilize them.
Automated Gem Swapping for Skill Bar
One of the most significant improvements is the ability to automatically swap skill gems based on your equipped weapon set. This eliminates the need for manual re-slotting when transitioning between different combat styles or utility setups.
- How it Works: When you equip a weapon in your primary weapon slot (Weapon Set 1) and a different weapon in your secondary weapon slot (Weapon Set 2), the game now remembers the skill gems socketed into each weapon and their associated support gems.
- Configuration Steps:
- Open your Inventory (default key: 'I').
- Equip your first weapon set (e.g., a Two-Handed Axe for AoE clear) into Weapon Set 1.
- Socket your desired active skill gems (e.g., Sunder, Earthquake) and their supports (e.g., Melee Physical Damage Support, Pulverise Support) into this weapon and any linked body armour or helmet.
- Switch to Weapon Set 2 by clicking the 'Swap Weapon Set' button (often a small icon next to your weapon slots or a hotkey, configurable in Options > Keybinds).
- Equip your second weapon set (e.g., a One-Handed Sword and Shield for single-target or defense).
- Socket your desired active skill gems (e.g., Vaal Double Strike, Shield Charge) and their supports (e.g., Ruthless Support, Fortify Support) into this weapon set and any linked gear.
- Now, when you press your 'Swap Weapon Set' hotkey during gameplay, not only will your weapons change, but the corresponding skill gems will automatically become active on your skill bar, provided you have enough available skill slots.
- Strategic Use: This is invaluable for builds that require different setups for bossing versus mapping, or for characters that frequently switch between ranged and melee combat. For example, a Ranger might swap between a Bow for long-range attacks and a Dagger/Shield for close-quarters evasion and utility.
Enhanced Item Filtering and Loot Allocation
The default loot filter has been significantly improved, and new options for party loot allocation have been added to reduce friction in group play.
- Default Loot Filter Improvements:
- Tiered Highlighting: Valuable items (e.g., Exalted Orbs, Divine Orbs, high-tier unique items like Kaom's Heart) are now highlighted with more prominent visual and auditory cues.
- Currency Stacking: Currency items (e.g., Chaos Orbs, Orb of Alchemy) now drop in larger stacks, reducing the number of individual clicks required to pick them up.
- Base Item Filtering: The default filter now intelligently hides low-ilvl (item level) normal and magic items that are unlikely to be useful past early acts, decluttering your screen. You can customize this further in the Options menu under 'UI' -> 'Loot Filter Settings'.
- Party Loot Allocation Options:
When playing in a party, you can now choose from several loot allocation methods:
- Free For All (Default): Anyone can pick up any dropped item. Best for highly coordinated groups or casual play where everyone is agreeable.
- Round Robin: Items are allocated to party members in a rotating order. When a valuable item drops, it will be highlighted for a specific player, and only they can pick it up for a short duration (e.g., 10 seconds). After this timer expires, it becomes free for all.
- Permanent Allocation: Similar to Round Robin, but once an item is allocated to a player, it remains exclusively theirs until picked up or the instance is reset. This is ideal for structured farming groups where specific players need certain drops.
- Boss Drop Allocation: A special setting for unique items and high-tier currency dropped by Bosses (e.g., Kitava, Malachai). These drops can be set to always be allocated to the party leader, or to a random party member. Configure this in the 'Party' menu by right-clicking on your character portrait.
Vendor Recipe Book
No more needing to alt-tab to a wiki for common vendor recipes! Path of Exile 2 introduces an in-game Vendor Recipe Book.
- Accessing the Book: Speak to any town vendor (e.g., Nessa in Lioneye's Watch, Yeena in The Forest Encampment). A new tab labeled "Recipes" will appear in their vendor interface.
- Content: This book lists all discovered vendor recipes, from basic ones like the Orb of Alteration recipe (selling a magic item with 3 linked sockets) to more advanced ones like the Chaos Orb recipe (selling a full set of rare items with item level 60-74).
- Discovery Mechanic: Recipes are initially hidden and become visible in the book once you successfully complete them for the first time. This encourages experimentation while still providing a convenient reference later.
- Benefits: This significantly reduces the learning curve for new players and provides a quick reminder for veterans, ensuring you don't miss out on valuable currency exchanges.
Map Device Enhancements
The Map Device in your Hideout has received several usability upgrades.
- Map Stash Integration: You can now directly access your Map Stash Tab from the Map Device interface. This means no more running back and forth to your stash to retrieve maps. Simply click the "Open Map Stash" button within the Map Device UI.
- Favorite Map Slots: You can designate up to 5 "Favorite Map" slots. Maps placed in these slots will have a slightly increased chance to drop when you are running other maps. This is excellent for targeting specific unique maps or highly profitable layouts. To set a favorite, drag a map from your inventory or Map Stash into one of the empty "Favorite" slots on the Map Device.
- Atlas Passive Tree Preview: When activating a map, the Map Device now displays a small, contextual preview of your active Atlas Passive Tree nodes that are relevant to the region of the map you are about to run. This helps you confirm your passive tree setup before committing to a map.
