Act 6: The Brine King

Welcome to Act 6, Exile! After your harrowing escape from the Beast, you find yourself back in Lioneye's Watch, but things are far from normal. The land is plagued by the Brine King's influence, and the very fabric of Wraeclast is shifting. This act serves as a direct continuation of your journey, introducing new threats and familiar faces in unexpected roles.

Lioneye's Watch (Act 6)

Upon arriving, you'll immediately notice the changes. Bestel is now the town's vendor, and Nessa has been replaced by Tarkleigh, who offers the usual array of services. Talk to Bestel to receive the quest "The Brine King". He will direct you to the Twilight Strand.

Twilight Strand (Act 6)

This familiar zone is now overrun with new, stronger aquatic enemies. Navigate through the beach, eliminating any threats you encounter. Your primary objective here is to find the entrance to the Coast. There are no unique items or specific quest objectives in this zone beyond progression.

The Coast (Act 6)

The Coast is a relatively straightforward zone. Continue battling through the aquatic creatures. Keep an eye out for any potential rare monster spawns for valuable gear. The exit to the Mud Flats is located at the far end of the zone.

The Mud Flats (Act 6)

This area introduces a new mechanic: the Crab Nest. These nests periodically spawn groups of crabs. Destroying them will stop the spawns and grant a small amount of experience. Your main goal here is to locate the entrance to the Karui Fortress. Be prepared for a higher density of enemies in this zone.

Karui Fortress

This fortress is a pivotal location. You'll encounter a new type of enemy here: Karui warriors corrupted by the Brine King's power. Navigate through the fortress, clearing out the enemies. Your objective is to find the entrance to the Ridge. There are no specific quest items to find here, but the enemies can drop valuable early-Act 6 gear.

The Ridge

The Ridge is a winding path that leads to the Lower Prison. Expect more corrupted Karui and aquatic creatures. The path can be narrow in places, making area-of-effect skills particularly effective. Be mindful of ranged attackers that can snipe you from elevated positions.

The Lower Prison

This section of the prison is now infested with new horrors. You'll need to find and activate the Way Point here. Your primary objective is to locate the entrance to the Shavronne's Tower, which leads to the Prisoner's Gate. The enemies here are tougher than previous zones, so ensure your gear is up to par.

Prisoner's Gate

The Prisoner's Gate is a short but dangerous zone. You'll encounter several enemies, including some that can inflict chilling or freezing effects. Progress through the gate to reach the Western Forest.

Western Forest (Act 6)

The Western Forest is a sprawling area. Your main objective here is to find the entrance to the Riverways. You'll also encounter the spirit of Alira, one of the bandit lords from Act 2. She will offer you a choice similar to Act 2, but with different rewards. Consider your build carefully before making a decision. The enemies here are a mix of forest creatures and corrupted humanoids.

The Riverways (Act 6)

The Riverways is another expansive zone. You'll need to navigate through it to find the entrance to the Wetlands. Keep an eye out for unique monster encounters, as they can drop valuable items. The terrain can be uneven, so be prepared for varied combat scenarios.

The Wetlands (Act 6)

This swampy area is home to a new type of enemy: bog dwellers. They can be slow but hit hard. Your objective is to find the entrance to the Southern Forest. The environment itself can be a hazard, with pools of corrosive liquid. Be cautious of your positioning.

Southern Forest (Act 6)

The Southern Forest is a dense and dangerous zone. You'll encounter stronger versions of the enemies from the Western Forest. Your goal is to locate the entrance to the Caverns. This zone can be quite challenging, so ensure you have sufficient defenses and damage output.

The Caverns

The Caverns are dark and winding. You'll face subterranean creatures and corrupted humanoids. Your objective is to find the entrance to the Brine King's Reef. The tight corridors can make ranged combat difficult, so consider your approach carefully.

Brine King's Reef

This is the final zone before the boss encounter. The reef is teeming with powerful aquatic enemies. Prepare for a gauntlet of challenging foes. Your ultimate goal is to reach the arena where the Brine King awaits.

Boss Fight: The Brine King

The Brine King is a formidable foe with several distinct phases. Understanding his mechanics is crucial for victory.

Phase 1: Aquatic Assault

  • Attacks: The Brine King will primarily use powerful melee attacks and summon waves of water that deal damage and push you back. He also has a ranged projectile attack.
  • Strategy: Stay mobile and avoid his melee swings. Dodge the waves by moving to the sides. Focus on dealing consistent damage while avoiding his abilities. use movement skills like Flame Dash or Whirling Blades to reposition quickly.

Phase 2: Geyser Eruption

  • Mechanic: After losing a certain amount of health, the Brine King will periodically submerge and summon geysers that erupt from the ground. These geysers deal significant damage.
  • Strategy: When he submerges, immediately move away from any glowing areas on the ground, as these indicate impending geyser eruptions. The Brine King will re-emerge after a short period. This phase often involves more summoned minions, so be prepared for crowd control.

Phase 3: Tidal Wave and Vortex

  • Mechanic: In his final phase, the Brine King will unleash a massive tidal wave that covers a large portion of the arena. He will also summon swirling water vortices that pull you in and deal continuous damage.
  • Strategy: The tidal wave can be dodged by standing in specific safe zones, usually indicated by a lack of visual effect on the ground. When the vortices appear, use your movement skills to escape their pull and continue damaging the boss. This phase is the most challenging, requiring precise movement and sustained damage.

Recommended Flasks and Gear

  • Utility Flasks: A Quicksilver Flask is essential for mobility. Consider a Granite Flask or Basalt Flask for physical damage reduction, or a Sapphire Flask if you're struggling with his cold damage.
  • Life Flasks: Ensure you have at least two strong life flasks, ideally with instant recovery or bleed removal.
  • Resistances: Prioritize Cold Resistance and Lightning Resistance, as the Brine King deals significant cold damage and some lightning damage. Aim for at least 75% capped resistances.
  • Damage: Ensure your main damage skill is adequately linked and supported. Consider using a Purity of Ice aura if your cold resistance is low.

Upon defeating the Brine King, you will receive the Brine King's Mark, a quest item, and unlock the next part of your journey. Return to Lioneye's Watch to speak with Bestel and complete the quest.
