NPCs & Vendors
Interacting with the various Non-Player Characters (NPCs) and Vendors in Path of Exile 2 is crucial for your survival and progression through the perilous lands of Wraeclast. These individuals offer vital services, from trading goods and crafting items to providing quests and lore. Understanding who they are, what they offer, and where to find them will significantly enhance your gameplay experience.
The Sarn Enclave: Your Initial Hub
Upon arriving in the Sarn Enclave, you'll encounter your first set of essential NPCs. This central hub serves as a safe haven where you can regroup, resupply, and prepare for your next venture into the wilderness.
- Commander Kirac: Often found near the main entrance to the Sarn Enclave, Kirac is your primary quest giver for early-game objectives. He will guide you through the initial zones and introduce you to the core mechanics of Path of Exile 2. Always check with him after completing a major area for new assignments and valuable rewards, such as Skill Gem Vouchers or Orb of Transmutation packs.
- Yeena, the Provisioner: Located centrally within the Sarn Enclave, Yeena is your go-to vendor for basic supplies.
- Currency: She sells essential currency items like Scroll of Wisdom (for identifying items) and Portal Scroll (for creating town portals). Always keep a stack of at least 10 of each on hand.
- Flasks: Yeena stocks various utility flasks, including Small Life Flasks and Small Mana Flasks. Upgrade these as soon as larger versions become available or you find better base types.
- Gear: While her gear selection is typically low-tier, she can occasionally offer a decent Magic Ring or Amulet with useful early-game resistances. Check her inventory periodically, especially if you're struggling with a specific resistance type.
- Helena, the Artisan: Positioned near the crafting bench in the Sarn Enclave, Helena is your introduction to basic crafting.
- Crafting Bench: Interact with the crafting bench next to Helena to apply basic modifiers to your gear using currency items. Early on, focus on adding elemental resistances or life to your armor pieces.
- Socketing & Linking: Helena can also help you modify the sockets and links on your items. Use Jeweller's Orbs to change the number of sockets and Orb of Fusing to link them. Prioritize linking your main skill gem with support gems.
Beyond the Enclave: Specialized Vendors
As you progress through the Acts, you'll encounter more specialized NPCs and vendors in various towns and outposts. These individuals offer unique services and items that are vital for character optimization.
- Act 2: The Forest Encampment
- Eramir, the Seer: Found in the Forest Encampment, Eramir offers passive skill point rewards for completing certain quests. His most notable service is the ability to respec passive skill points using Orb of Regret currency. This is crucial for correcting build mistakes or adapting to new strategies.
- Silk, the Gem Merchant: Also in the Forest Encampment, Silk specializes in selling skill gems. She offers a wider variety of gems than Yeena, including many support gems. Check her inventory frequently to find new support gems for your primary skills or to acquire missing utility gems like Vaal Haste or Steelskin.
- Act 3: The Imperial Gardens
- Clarissa, the Apothecary: Located in the Imperial Gardens, Clarissa sells a wider array of flasks and offers the service of removing corrupted modifiers from items using Vaal Orb currency, though this is a high-risk, high-reward endeavor. She also sells Flask Charges and Instilling Orbs for flask utility.
Vendor Recipes: Hidden Treasures
Path of Exile 2 retains the deep system of vendor recipes. These are specific combinations of items you can sell to any vendor to receive a unique currency item or piece of gear. Mastering these recipes is a cornerstone of efficient currency generation and item acquisition.
- The Chaos Orb Recipe: This is one of the most important early-game currency recipes. Sell a full set of rare (yellow) items (two rings, an amulet, a belt, two weapons, helmet, body armor, gloves, and boots) to any vendor.
- Condition 1: All items must be unidentified. This yields two Chaos Orbs.
- Condition 2: All items must be identified. This yields one Chaos Orb.
- Condition 3: A mix of identified and unidentified items. This yields one Chaos Orb.
Strategy: Prioritize collecting unidentified rare items, especially those with an item level between 60 and 74, for maximum Chaos Orb generation in the early mapping stages.
- The Chromatic Orb Recipe: Sell an item with at least one red, one green, and one blue socket linked together to any vendor. This will grant you one Chromatic Orb.
Strategy: Keep an eye out for items with naturally linked R-G-B sockets, even if the item itself is useless. These are a consistent source of Chromatic Orbs, essential for recoloring sockets on your gear.
- The Glassblower's Bauble Recipe: Sell a quality flask (20% quality) to any vendor to receive a Glassblower's Bauble.
Strategy: Use Blacksmith's Whetstones or Armourer's Scraps on flasks you find until they reach 20% quality, then sell them for Baubles. These are vital for improving the quality of your utility and life flasks.
Remember to always check vendor inventories after completing quests or leveling up, as their stock often refreshes with new and potentially useful items. Building a strong relationship with the NPCs of Wraeclast is key to mastering Path of Exile 2.
