Compendium & Persona Management
The Persona Compendium, accessible via the Velvet Room, is your invaluable resource for managing your Persona collection. It allows you to register your currently held Personas, summon previously registered Personas, and track your overall completion. Mastering its use is crucial for efficient gameplay, especially when tackling Tartarus and optimizing Social Link progression.
Registering Personas
Whenever you acquire a new Persona or one of your existing Personas levels up and learns new skills, you should visit the Compendium to register its current state. This overwrites the previously registered version with the updated one. Here's why and how:
- Skill Inheritance: Personas gain new skills as they level up. Registering them ensures these new skills are saved. This is vital for creating powerful fusions later on.
- Stat Growth: Higher-level Personas have better stats. Registering them at their peak ensures you can resummon a stronger version if needed.
- Cost Efficiency: While summoning costs money, registering a Persona is free. Always register before fusing away a valuable Persona.
- Actionable Step: After a successful Tartarus run or a significant leveling session, head to the Velvet Room. Select "Compendium" then "Register." Review your current Personas and register any that have gained levels or new skills (indicated by a small "NEW" icon).
Summoning Personas
Summoning allows you to retrieve any Persona you've previously registered in the Compendium. This is essential for several strategic reasons:
- Fusion Material: Often, you'll need specific Personas as fusion ingredients that you may have fused away or discarded. Summoning them is the only way to get them back.
- Social Link Boosts: Holding a Persona of the matching Arcana when spending time with a Social Link character grants a significant boost to relationship points. If you lack the appropriate Persona, summon one from the Compendium.
- Re-acquiring Lost Personas: If you accidentally discard a Persona or use it in a fusion without registering its latest state, you can always summon an older version from the Compendium.
- Actionable Step: To summon, go to the Velvet Room, select "Compendium," then "Summon." Browse by Arcana or search by name. Be mindful of the cost; higher-level Personas and those with more skills will be more expensive. Early in the game, prioritize summoning for Social Link boosts or crucial fusion components.
Compendium Completion
Striving for 100% Compendium completion is a significant long-term goal in Persona 3 Portable, especially for completionists and those aiming for the strongest Personas.
- Rewards: Reaching certain completion percentages can unlock special rewards, though the primary benefit is access to powerful fusion options.
- Orpheus Telos: A key Persona for late-game power, Orpheus Telos (Fool Arcana) is only accessible on New Game+ and requires maxing out all Social Links. However, its fusion recipe often involves high-level Personas that you'll acquire through diligent Compendium management.
- Actionable Step: Regularly check your Compendium progress. Make a note of Personas you're missing. During Shuffle Time in Tartarus, prioritize cards that grant new Personas you don't yet own. When fusing, try to create new Personas rather than just upgrading existing ones to fill out your collection.
Managing Your Persona Stock
You have a limited number of slots for Personas in your active stock. Effective management is key to ensuring you always have the right tools for the job.
- Diverse Skill Sets: Aim for a balanced team of Personas covering various elemental damage types (Fire, Ice, Elec, Wind) and healing/support skills. This prepares you for any enemy weaknesses in Tartarus.
- Social Link Personas: Always try to keep at least one Persona for each active Social Link Arcana. This maximizes your efficiency during the day. If you can't carry them all, summon them as needed before meeting a Social Link.
- Fusion Fodder: Don't be afraid to fuse away Personas that have served their purpose or are redundant. Just ensure you've registered their latest state in the Compendium first!
- Actionable Step: Before entering Tartarus, review your current Persona stock. Do you have Personas with strong single-target and multi-target attacks for each element? Do you have a dedicated healer (e.g., a Persona with Media or Mediarama)? Consider what enemies you expect to face on the current block of Tartarus and tailor your stock accordingly.
