Persona 4 Arena Ultimax features a diverse roster of characters from both Persona 3 and Persona 4, each with unique fighting styles and Persona abilities. Characters can generally be categorized into several archetypes: Rushdown characters excel at close-range pressure and quick combos (e.g., Yu Narukami, Akihiko Sanada), Zoners prefer to control space and keep opponents at a distance with projectiles (e.g., Yukiko Amagi, Mitsuru Kirijo), and Grapplers specialize in powerful command grabs and close-range mix-ups (e.g., Kanji Tatsumi, Teddie).
Additionally, some characters have unique mechanics, such as Elizabeth's ability to summon multiple Personas or Sho Minazuki's dual playstyles (with or without Persona). When selecting a character, consider your preferred playstyle and experiment in training mode to find a character that resonates with you. Each character also has a 'Shadow Type' variant, which offers different gameplay mechanics, such as a permanent SP gauge and the ability to enter 'Shadow Frenzy' for enhanced attacks, but at the cost of not being able to use Burst.
