Persona Compendium & Fusions

The Persona Compendium, accessible via the Velvet Room, is your invaluable resource for managing and optimizing your Persona collection. It allows you to register your currently held Personas, summon previously registered ones, and track your overall completion. Mastering Persona fusion is key to overcoming the challenges of the Midnight Channel, as it allows you to create stronger Personas with inherited skills and stat bonuses.

Understanding the Compendium

The Compendium serves several critical functions:

  • Registration: Every time you obtain a new Persona (either through Shuffle Time or fusion), it is automatically registered in the Compendium at its current level and with its current skill set. You can manually register a Persona at any time to update its entry, which is crucial after it learns new skills or gains levels.
  • Summoning: You can summon any Persona you've previously registered from the Compendium for a fee, paid in Yen. The cost depends on the Persona's level and stats. This is essential for recovering Personas you've used in fusion or for re-obtaining a specific Persona for a new fusion recipe.
  • Completion Tracking: Aiming for 100% Compendium completion is a significant long-term goal, often required for certain achievements or for unlocking the strongest Personas in the game.

The Art of Persona Fusion

Persona fusion is the process of combining two or more Personas to create a new, typically stronger, Persona. This is performed in the Velvet Room by Igor and Margaret. There are two primary types of fusion:

1. Two-Persona Fusion (Normal Fusion)

This is the most common type of fusion, combining two Personas to create a new one. The resulting Persona's Arcana is determined by the Arcana of the two fused Personas. You can preview the outcome and inherited skills before confirming the fusion.

  • Strategy:
    • Skill Inheritance: Pay close attention to skill inheritance. Strong passive skills (like Growth, Regenerate, Invigorate) and powerful elemental attacks can be passed down. For example, fusing a Persona with "Ziodyne" and another with "Elec Boost" can result in a new Persona that inherits both, making it a formidable electric attacker.
    • Social Link Bonus: Always try to fuse Personas of an Arcana that matches your current highest-ranked Social Link. This grants a significant experience bonus to the newly fused Persona, often allowing it to start several levels higher and learn new skills immediately. For instance, if your Chariot Social Link is Rank 5, fusing a Chariot Persona will result in a much stronger initial Persona.
    • "Down-Fusing": Sometimes, you might need a specific low-level Persona for a particular fusion recipe or for a Social Link request. Don't be afraid to fuse powerful Personas to create weaker ones if it serves a strategic purpose.
  • Actionable Steps:
    1. Visit the Velvet Room by selecting "Velvet Room" from the menu in the Shopping District, Central.
    2. Choose "Fuse Personas."
    3. Select "2 Personas."
    4. Experiment with different combinations. The game will show you the resulting Persona and its potential inherited skills.
    5. Prioritize fusing when you have a high-ranking Social Link for the desired Arcana.

2. Triangle Fusion (Triple Fusion)

Triangle Fusion combines three Personas to create a more powerful one. These fusions often yield Personas that cannot be created through normal two-Persona fusion and are typically of higher Arcana or unique types.

  • Strategy:
    • Specific Recipes: Triangle Fusions often have very specific recipes. You'll usually discover these through experimentation or by consulting a comprehensive fusion chart. For example, fusing a specific combination of Personas might be the only way to obtain a Persona like Black Frost (Fool Arcana).
    • Advanced Skill Inheritance: With three Personas, you have more opportunities to pass down a wider array of skills. Plan your fusions carefully to ensure your desired skills are present on at least one of the source Personas.
  • Actionable Steps:
    1. Access the Velvet Room.
    2. Choose "Fuse Personas."
    3. Select "3 Personas."
    4. Consult a fusion chart (either in-game if unlocked, or an external guide) to identify the required Personas for your target.
    5. Ensure all three required Personas are in your active stock or can be summoned from the Compendium.

Special Fusions and Unique Personas

Some Personas can only be created under specific circumstances:

  • Max Social Link Personas: Reaching Rank 10 with a Social Link unlocks the ability to fuse the ultimate Persona of that Arcana. For example, maxing the Fool Social Link (automatically done through story progression) allows you to fuse Loki. These are often the strongest Personas in their respective Arcanas.
  • Quest-Related Fusions: Certain requests from the Fox or other NPCs might require you to fuse a specific Persona with a particular skill. Always check the request details carefully. For instance, the quest "Please Feed the Cat" (Request 08) requires a Neko Shogun with the "Invigorate 2" skill. You'll need to fuse Neko Shogun, ensuring one of the components has Invigorate 2 to pass it on.
  • Fusion Accidents: Rarely, a fusion can result in a "Fusion Accident," producing a completely different Persona than expected, often with unusual skills. While unpredictable, these can sometimes yield powerful or rare Personas.

Tips for Efficient Fusion

  • Maintain a Diverse Stock: Always try to keep several Personas with different Arcanas and elemental affinities in your stock. This gives you more options for fusion.
  • Register Regularly: Register your Personas in the Compendium frequently, especially after they gain levels or learn new skills. This ensures you can always summon the most up-to-date version.
  • Yen Management: Summoning Personas can be expensive, especially later in the game. Ensure you have enough Yen by farming shadows in dungeons or selling materials at Daidara Metalworks.
  • Skill Cards: Don't forget about Skill Cards! These can be obtained from Shuffle Time, chests, or by extracting skills from Personas in the Velvet Room. Skill Cards allow you to teach specific skills to any Persona, making it easier to create your ideal fusion. For example, if you need "Mediarama" on a specific Persona, and none of your fusion components have it, a Mediarama Skill Card can solve the problem.

By understanding these mechanics and planning your fusions strategically, you'll be well-equipped to build an unstoppable Persona team and conquer the toughest challenges Inaba throws your way.
