The Persona Compendium and Fusion system are the cornerstones of Persona 4 Golden's combat and progression. Mastering these mechanics allows you to create powerful allies, tailor your party's strengths, and overcome the most challenging adversaries in the Midnight Channel.

Persona Fusion is the process of combining two or more Personas to create a new, often more powerful, one. This is done at the Velvet Room, where Igor and his assistants reside. The resulting Persona's level, stats, and inherited skills depend on the Personas used in the fusion, as well as your current level and the rank of the relevant Social Link.

The Persona Compendium acts as a record of all Personas you have ever obtained. Once a Persona is registered in the Compendium, you can re-summon it at any time for a fee. This is incredibly useful for replacing discarded Personas or for specific fusion recipes. The cost to re-summon increases with the Persona's level and rarity.

When fusing Personas, pay close attention to skill inheritance. Many powerful skills can be passed down from the parent Personas to the resulting one. This allows you to create Personas with specialized skill sets, such as those with strong elemental coverage, healing abilities, or powerful buff/debuff skills.

Social Links play a critical role in fusion. When you fuse a Persona whose Arcana matches a Social Link you have ranked up, the resulting Persona will receive a 'bonus level.' This means it will be created at a higher level than it normally would be, making it sificantly stronger. Maxing out Social Links is therefore essential for creating the most powerful Personas.

Certain quests given by Elizabeth or Margaret in the Velvet Room require specific Persona fusions. Completing these quests often rewards you with valuable items or even unique Personas. These quests are a great way to learn about advanced fusion techniques and discover powerful combinations.

As you progress through the story, Igor will unlock the ability to fuse Personas with more than two components, leading to the creation of ultimate Personas like Izanagi-no-Okami. These require specific conditions, often involving maxed Social Links and high levels, and are crucial for tackling the game's toughest challenges and achieving the best endings.
