December: Christmas and the Final Dungeon

Conquer December in Persona 4 Golden, navigating the final dungeon and Christmas events. Prepare your team for pivotal story moments and endings.

December: Christmas and the Final Dungeon

December brings the festive season to Inaba, but also the final push towards uncovering the truth behind the mysterious murders. This month is critical for wrapping up Social Links, preparing your team for the ultimate challenges, and navigating some pivotal story moments. Be especially mindful of your choices on December 3rd, as they will determine your ending path.

December 3rd: The Critical Choice

This day is arguably the most important in the entire game. Your choices here directly influence which ending you receive. To achieve the Golden Ending (which unlocks the true final dungeon in January), you must identify the true culprit correctly. If you fail, you will be locked into a Bad Ending or the Accomplice Ending.

When prompted, you will need to accuse the correct individual. The sequence of choices is as follows:

  1. When asked "Was Adachi the killer?", respond with "No."
  2. When prompted to consider the evidence, choose "Something's bothering me."
  3. When asked "What are you going to do?", select "We're missing something."
  4. When asked "What is it we're missing?", choose "The killer's true motive."
  5. Finally, when asked to name the culprit, select "Tohru Adachi."

If you follow these steps, the story will progress towards the True Ending path. If you make incorrect choices, the game will advance to a premature ending, and you'll miss out on significant content.

December 5th: The Final Dungeon Opens

After the events of December 3rd, the final dungeon, Magatsu Inaba / Magatsu Mandala, will become accessible. This is your last chance to grind, fuse powerful Personas, and gather any remaining items before the final confrontation. It is highly recommended to complete this dungeon as soon as possible to allow time for Social Link progression and other activities before the Christmas Eve event.

Magatsu Inaba / Magatsu Mandala Dungeon Guide

  • Recommended Level: Your party should ideally be around Level 70-75 for a comfortable experience.
  • Party Setup: A balanced party is crucial. Consider bringing Yukiko for healing and fire damage, Kanji for physical prowess and electric damage, and Naoto for Almighty attacks and instant kills. Yosuke and Chie also remain strong choices.
  • Enemies to Watch Out For:
    • Chaos Fuzz: Weak to Fire, nulls Ice. Can inflict Fear.
    • Jotun of Power: No weaknesses, resists Physical. Uses powerful physical attacks.
    • Phantom Lord: Weak to Ice, nulls Fire. Uses Agilao.
    • Rebellious Cyclops: Weak to Wind, nulls Electric. Can use Ziodyne.
    • Eternal Eagle: Weak to Electric, nulls Wind. Uses Garudyne.
  • Key Items & Equipment:
    • Ensure your party has the best available weapons and armor from Daidara Metalworks.
    • Stock up on healing items (e.g., Soma, Macca Leaf, Bead Chain) and revival items (e.g., Balm of Life, Revival Bead).
    • Status ailment cures are also important, particularly for Fear and Poison.
  • Boss Strategy:
    • The boss of Magatsu Inaba is Ameno-Sagiri. This boss has no elemental weaknesses but can be hit by all types of damage.
    • Ameno-Sagiri uses powerful Almighty attacks and can change the battle's atmosphere, affecting elemental damage.
    • Focus on consistent damage, keeping your party healed, and using buffs/debuffs (e.g., Tarukaja, Rakunda, Sukukaja).
    • Be prepared for a long fight. Having Personas with high Endurance and access to powerful single-target and multi-target healing spells (e.g., Mediarahan) is highly beneficial.

December 24th: Christmas Eve

After clearing Magatsu Inaba, you will automatically advance to December 24th. This is a special event where you can spend Christmas Eve with your chosen romantic partner. If you have not established a romantic relationship with any character, you will spend the evening with your male friends.

  • Romantic Partners: If you have maxed out a female Social Link and chosen the romantic path, you will receive a unique scene and a special item from them (e.g., Yukiko's Hairpin, Rise's Bracelet, Chie's Gloves). These items often provide a minor stat boost or unique effect.
  • Friendship Path: If you are not in a romantic relationship, you will spend the evening with Yosuke, Kanji, and Teddie, receiving a different, but still heartwarming, scene.

Remaining Days in December

With the main dungeon cleared and Christmas Eve passed, the remaining days in December are primarily for wrapping up any unfinished business:

  • Social Links: This is your last chance to max out any Social Links before the end of the year. Prioritize those you are close to finishing.
  • Persona Compendium: Fuse any remaining Personas you wish to register or complete your Compendium.
  • Quests: Finish any outstanding side quests from the Fox or other NPCs.
  • Fishing: If you're aiming for the fishing achievements or want to collect rare fish, now is a good time.

Remember, the game will automatically progress to January after December 31st. Ensure you've saved your game frequently, especially after making critical story choices or clearing dungeons.
