January: New Year and Epilogue

Welcome to January, a month that marks the beginning of the end for your journey in Inaba. While the main story's climax may have passed, January offers crucial opportunities for character development, social link progression, and preparing for the true ending. This section will guide you through the key events and optimal choices to make the most of your final weeks.

January 1st - 10th: New Year's Festivities and Social Links

The first few days of January are dedicated to New Year's celebrations and spending time with your friends. These events are mostly automatic but offer valuable social link points and character interactions.

  • January 1st: New Year's Day
    • You'll automatically spend the day with your family and friends. Enjoy the cutscenes and dialogue.
    • Action: Head to the Tatsuhime Shrine for the New Year's visit. You'll have opportunities to interact with various Social Link characters. Choose options that align with improving their relationships.
    • Reward: Depending on your choices, you can gain Social Link points for multiple characters.
  • January 2nd - 10th: Social Link Opportunities
    • These days are prime for catching up on any Social Links you haven't maxed out. Prioritize those you wish to complete before the end of the game.
    • Strategy: Check your Social Link menu daily to see who is available. Remember that Sundays and holidays often provide unique opportunities for specific characters.
    • Recommended Activities:
      • Dojima (Hierophant) & Nanako (Justice): If not maxed, spend time with them at home.
      • Adachi (Jester/Hunger): If you are on track for the True Ending, ensure you have progressed his Social Link to Rank 6 by November 1st. If you haven't, you won't be able to unlock his later ranks in January.
      • Marie (Aeon): This is absolutely critical for unlocking the Golden Ending content. Ensure her Social Link is maxed out by January 31st. She is often available at the Central Shopping District, South.
      • Other School Social Links: Check the school building for available classmates.

January 11th - 31st: The Hollow Forest and Final Preparations

This period is dominated by the introduction of a new dungeon, the Hollow Forest, which is exclusive to Persona 4 Golden and directly tied to Marie's Social Link. Completing this dungeon is mandatory for the Golden Ending.

  • January 11th: Marie's Disappearance
    • Event: A significant story event will occur where Marie goes missing. This triggers the path to the Hollow Forest.
    • Action: You will be prompted to investigate. Speak with your friends and eventually, you'll gain access to the new dungeon.
  • January 12th - 31st: Exploring the Hollow Forest
    • Location: The Hollow Forest is accessed via the TV World entrance.
    • Key Information:
      • No Items Allowed: This dungeon has a unique mechanic where all your inventory items (healing, attack items) are confiscated upon entry. You'll need to rely on Persona skills and SP management.
      • SP Management: SP recovery items are extremely rare within the dungeon itself. Consider equipping accessories that boost SP or reduce SP cost. Personas with Invigorate or Spirit Drain are invaluable.
      • Enemies: The Shadows here are powerful. Ensure your party is well-leveled (ideally 80+) and equipped with your best gear.
      • Boss Fights: There are multiple boss encounters within the Hollow Forest. Be prepared for challenging battles.
    • Strategy:
      • Prioritize SP: Conserve SP as much as possible. Use physical attacks against weaker enemies.
      • Exploit Weaknesses: As always, hitting enemy weaknesses for All-Out Attacks is crucial for efficient combat.
      • Healers: Bring a dedicated healer (Yukiko or Teddie) and ensure they have ample SP.
      • Return to Entrance: If you're running low on SP or HP, you can return to the dungeon entrance to save and recover. However, remember you cannot bring items back in.
      • Golden Chests: Look out for golden chests within the dungeon; these often contain valuable equipment or rare SP recovery items that are usable only within the Hollow Forest.
    • Completion: You must clear the Hollow Forest before January 31st. Failing to do so will lock you out of the Golden Ending.

General Tips for January:

  • Max Social Links: This is your last major window to max out any remaining Social Links. Prioritize Marie (Aeon) if you haven't already.
  • Persona Fusions: Fuse powerful Personas in the Velvet Room. Consider creating Personas with strong elemental attacks, healing, and support skills for the Hollow Forest.
  • Equipment: Ensure your party members have their ultimate weapons and armor. You can forge ultimate weapons at Daidara Metalworks by trading rare materials found in dungeons.
  • Skill Cards: Use any remaining Skill Cards to optimize your Personas.
  • Save Frequently: Always save before entering the Hollow Forest and after making significant progress.

By following these steps, you'll be well-prepared to navigate January's challenges and secure the Golden Ending, leading into the final month of your unforgettable year in Inaba.
