November 6th - 20th: The True Culprit's Shadow

The period between November 6th and November 20th is arguably the most pivotal and emotionally charged segment of Persona 4. Your choices during this time directly determine whether you achieve the "Good Ending," "True Ending," or fall into one of the "Bad Endings." Pay close attention, save frequently, and follow these instructions carefully.

November 6th: The Hospital Confrontation

This day presents a critical juncture where the Investigation Team, fueled by anger and grief, is on the verge of making a terrible mistake. Your role as the protagonist is to guide them towards reason and prevent them from throwing Taro Namatame into the TV World. Failing to do so will result in a premature "Bad Ending."

When prompted during the hospital scene, you must select the following dialogue options in sequence. If you deviate, reload your save and try again.

  • Option 1: "Wait a second here..."
  • Option 2: "We're missing something."
  • Option 3: "Namatame's true feelings."
  • Option 4: "Something's bothering me."
  • Option 5: "We're not going to do anything."
  • Option 6: "Calm down."
  • Option 7: "What do you mean, 'we'?"
  • Option 8: "Is that what you really think?"

Successfully navigating this conversation will lead the team to reconsider their actions and decide to investigate further, setting the stage for the true culprit's discovery. If you fail, you will receive a "Bad Ending" and be forced to reload.

November 7th - November 20th: The Deduction Phase

With Namatame's fate temporarily resolved, the Investigation Team realizes there's a deeper mystery at play. The true mastermind behind the Inaba murders is still at large. This period is dedicated to gathering crucial information and piecing together the puzzle. Unlike previous investigations, there's no dungeon to clear immediately; instead, you'll be engaging in extensive dialogue and deduction.

Key Investigation Steps & NPC Interactions:

  1. November 7th: Team Meeting at Junes
    • The team will convene to discuss the new direction of the investigation. Pay attention to their theories and observations.
    • You'll be prompted to consider who might be the true culprit. While you won't name them yet, this is a good time to reflect on past events.
  2. November 8th - 19th: Gathering Information in Inaba

During this period, you need to actively seek out and speak with specific NPCs. The game won't explicitly tell you who to talk to, but certain conversations will trigger new insights and advance the plot. Prioritize these locations and individuals:

    • Samegawa Flood Plain: Speak with the Nurse (if available) or other residents.
    • Central Shopping District:
      • Dojima's House: Talk to Nanako and Dojima. Their perspectives on the case and Namatame are crucial.
      • Gas Station Attendant: Revisit the Gas Station. The attendant's dialogue, particularly about the fog and the "other side," becomes highly suspicious in retrospect.
      • Aiya Chinese Restaurant: Sometimes, team members will be discussing the case here.
    • Yasogami High School:
      • Classroom 2-2: Talk to your classmates. Some may offer seemingly innocuous but relevant observations.
      • Practice Building: Check for any team members.
    • Junes Department Store: Team members often gather here. Engage in conversations to piece together clues.

Progression Trigger: You'll know you're making progress when the Investigation Team starts to collectively doubt previous assumptions and new theories emerge during your daily interactions and evening meetings.

  3. Crucial Clues to Look For:
    • The Gas Station Attendant's initial encounter: Recall the first day you arrived in Inaba and your interaction with the attendant. The "handshake" and subsequent events are key.
    • The nature of the TV World and its connection to human desires: Re-evaluate what you know about how people end up in the TV World.
    • The timing of the murders and the appearance of the fog: Connect these events to specific individuals.
    • The "help" offered to the victims: Consider who might have been in a position to "help" people into the TV.
  4. November 20th: The Final Deduction

On this day, the Investigation Team will gather for a final discussion. You will be prompted to name the true culprit. This is a critical moment. If you accuse the wrong person, you will receive another "Bad Ending."

    SPOILER WARNING: The True Mastermind

The true mastermind behind the Inaba murders and the events of the game is Tohru Adachi. He is the police detective who has been working alongside Dojima. His motive stems from boredom, a twisted sense of justice, and a desire to witness chaos. He used his position to manipulate events and throw people into the TV World.

To correctly identify Adachi, you will need to select dialogue options that point towards him. The exact phrasing can vary slightly depending on your previous choices, but the core idea is to accuse the person who was always present, had access to information, and showed a suspicious lack of concern or an unusual interest in the cases.

If you successfully identify Adachi, the team will confront him, leading to the final dungeon of this arc: Magatsu Inaba / Magatsu Mandala.

Confronting the Mastermind: Magatsu Inaba / Magatsu Mandala

Once Adachi is identified, he will flee into the TV World, creating his own distorted dungeon. This is a challenging dungeon, so ensure your team is well-prepared.

Dungeon Overview: Magatsu Inaba / Magatsu Mandala
  • Floors: Magatsu Inaba (1 floor), Magatsu Mandala (6 floors)
  • Recommended Level: 70+
  • Key Items to Find: None specific for progression, but treasure chests contain valuable gear and consumables.
Enemy Weaknesses & Resistances:

The Shadows in Magatsu Inaba / Magatsu Mandala are generally strong and often have resistances or immunities. Focus on exploiting weaknesses where possible and using powerful Almighty attacks.

Shadow Name Weakness Resistances/Immunities
Chaos Fuzz Ice Fire, Wind, Electric, Light, Dark
Jotun of Power Wind Physical, Fire
Phantom Lord Electric Ice, Wind
Steel Machine Fire Physical, Ice
Vehement Idol Light Dark, Fire, Ice, Electric, Wind
Void Giant None Physical, Fire, Ice, Electric, Wind
Boss Battle: Tohru Adachi & Ameno-Sagiri

This confrontation involves two distinct phases.

Phase 1: Tohru Adachi
  • Adachi's Persona: Magatsu Izanagi
  • Attacks: Adachi uses several elemental and physical attacks, including Maziodyne, Maragidyne, Mabufudyne, Magarudyne, and Vorpal Blade. He can also inflict status ailments.
  • Strategy:
    • Adachi has no specific elemental weaknesses. Focus on using powerful physical and Almighty attacks.
    • Guard when he charges up for powerful attacks.
    • Maintain high HP and use healing items/skills frequently.
    • Debuff Adachi's attack and defense, and buff your party's attack and defense.
    • Consider using Personas with high Endurance or those that resist Physical/Elemental damage.
Phase 2: Ameno-Sagiri

After defeating Adachi, the true entity behind the fog, Ameno-Sagiri, will emerge.

  • Attacks: Ameno-Sagiri uses powerful elemental attacks (Mind Charge + Ma-dyne spells), status ailments (Silence, Fear), and a unique skill called "Nebula" which can deal massive Almighty damage. It also has an attack called "God's Judgement" which halves the HP of one party member.
  • Strategy:
    • Elemental Resistance: Ameno-Sagiri resists all elemental attacks. Focus on Physical and Almighty damage.
    • "Calm" State: Ameno-Sagiri will occasionally enter a "Calm" state, during which it will heal itself. This is a good opportunity to use powerful attacks to try and out-damage its healing.
    • "God's Judgement": Be prepared to heal immediately after this attack.
    • "Nebula": This is its most dangerous attack. Ensure your party's HP is as high as possible before it uses this. Guarding can help mitigate some damage.
    • Buffs/Debuffs: Crucial for this fight. Keep Tarukaja/Rakukaja/Sukukaja active on your party and Rakunda/Tarunda/Sukunda on Ameno-Sagiri.
    • Recommended Party: A balanced party with strong physical attackers (Chie, Kanji) and reliable healers/support (Yukiko, Teddie) is ideal. Yu should focus on powerful Almighty Personas like Yoshitsune (Hassou Tobi) or Trumpeter (Debilitate).

Successfully defeating Ameno-Sagiri concludes the main murder mystery arc and sets the stage for the game's true ending path, which extends into the subsequent months. Congratulations, you've navigated one of Persona 4's most challenging and emotionally resonant sections!
