July 1st - 17th: Summer Activities & New Suspect
Welcome to July, a pivotal month in Inaba! As summer officially kicks off, you'll find a blend of social opportunities, new mysteries, and the chance to significantly boost your Social Links and Social Stats. This guide covers the critical events and optimal strategies for July 1st through July 17th, leading directly into the next major dungeon: Void Quest.
July 1st - 9th: Pre-Summer Break Preparations & Social Link Optimization
This initial period is your last chance to tie up loose ends before the school festival and summer break. It's crucial to balance dungeon progress, Social Link development, and Social Stat grinding.
- Dungeon Deadline Reminder: If you haven't already, ensure you have rescued Rise Kujikawa from the Marukyu Striptease dungeon. July 9th is the absolute last day to clear this dungeon. Failing to do so will result in a Game Over. If you're struggling, consider grinding in previous dungeons or fusing Personas with better resistances and offensive capabilities.
- Social Link Prioritization: With summer break approaching, focus on Social Links that are school-based or have specific availability windows.
- Early Game Social Links (Still Highly Recommended):
- Chie (Chariot): Often available after school. Her Social Link provides valuable battle skills for the Investigation Team. Optimal choices often involve encouraging her training or showing appreciation for her efforts.
- Yukiko (Priestess): Similar to Chie, she's a core party member whose Social Link grants combat benefits. Focus on supporting her aspirations and confidence.
- Yosuke (Magician): Your first party member, his Social Link is easy to advance and provides useful battle abilities. Be a good friend and confidant.
- Dojima (Hierophant): Available evenings. Advancing this Social Link is essential for story progression and provides a strong Persona. Spend time with him at home.
- Nanako (Justice): Available evenings. A heartwarming Social Link that also provides a powerful Persona. Play with her or help her with chores.
- School-Specific Social Links (Prioritize if you haven't maxed them): These will become less available during summer break.
- Kou Ichijo (Strength) / Daisuke Nagase (Strength): Depending on which club you joined. These are only available on specific days after school (usually Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays). Bring a matching Persona for bonus points.
- Kou (Basketball): Focus on encouraging his leadership and dedication.
- Daisuke (Soccer): Support his passion for the sport and his personal struggles.
- Ayane Matsunaga (Sun) / Yumi Ozawa (Sun): Depending on which club you joined. Also only available on specific days after school (usually Mondays, Thursdays, Saturdays). Bring a matching Persona.
- Ayane (Band): Encourage her musical talent and confidence.
- Yumi (Drama): Support her acting and help her through family issues.
- Naoki Konishi (Hanged Man): Available at school. Requires specific dialogue choices and a certain level of Understanding to initiate. You'll often find him in the 1F Classroom Building. To initiate, you need to talk to him multiple times:
- Talk to him, he'll brush you off.
- Talk to him again, he'll mention his sister.
- Talk to him a third time, he'll ask you to leave him alone.
- With sufficient Understanding (Rank 3+ recommended), talk to him a fourth time, and you'll have the option to initiate the Social Link.
- Kou Ichijo (Strength) / Daisuke Nagase (Strength): Depending on which club you joined. These are only available on specific days after school (usually Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays). Bring a matching Persona for bonus points.
- Stat Building: Continue to read books from the library (especially those that boost multiple stats), eat at Aiya's, or work part-time jobs if you have free evenings. Aim to raise your Expression and Understanding for upcoming Social Links.
- Reading Books: Visit the library at Yasogami High School or the bookstore in the Central Shopping District.
- "The Gentle Way" (Knowledge): Available from July 1st.
- "Expert Study Methods" (Knowledge): Available from July 1st.
- "Off Today" (Diligence): Available from July 1st.
- "Witch Detective" (Courage): Available from July 1st.
- Aiya's Rainy Day Challenge (Diligence, Courage, Knowledge, Expression, Understanding): On rainy days, visit Aiya's in the Central Shopping District for the Mega Beef Bowl Challenge. Successfully completing it boosts all five social stats, but it costs 3000 Yen and requires high stats to succeed initially.
- Part-Time Jobs (Evenings):
- Tutor (Expression & Diligence): Check the bulletin board at the Central Shopping District. Requires Expression Rank 2 (Eloquent).
- Translator (Knowledge & Expression): Check the bulletin board at the Central Shopping District. Requires Knowledge Rank 2 (Knowledgeable).
- Reading Books: Visit the library at Yasogami High School or the bookstore in the Central Shopping District.
July 10th: The School Festival
Today is a mandatory, scripted event. Enjoy the lighthearted interactions with your friends and classmates. There are no choices that significantly impact gameplay, so simply soak in the atmosphere and character development.
July 11th - 14th: Summer Break Begins & New Social Link Opportunity
Summer break offers a significant shift in your daily routine, providing more flexibility for non-school-based activities.
- Increased Free Time: With no school, you'll have more morning and afternoon slots for activities. This is an excellent time to focus on Social Links that are available outside of school hours, part-time jobs, or fishing.
- Part-Time Jobs: Consider working part-time jobs to earn money and boost Social Stats. These are generally available by checking the bulletin board at the Central Shopping District.
- Tutor (Expression & Diligence): Available evenings. Requires Expression Rank 2 (Eloquent).
- Translator (Knowledge & Expression): Available evenings. Requires Knowledge Rank 2 (Knowledgeable).
- Origami Crane Folder (Diligence): Available during the day. Requires Diligence Rank 2 (Persistent).
- Envelope Constructor (Diligence): Available during the day. Requires Diligence Rank 2 (Persistent).
- Hospital Janitor (Courage & Diligence): Available evenings. Requires Courage Rank 3 (Daring). This job becomes available later in the game but is a good target.
- Fishing: If you've acquired a fishing rod (from the old man at the Samegawa Flood Plain after giving him a bug), summer is a great time to fish. Fishing can provide items for quests, money, and even boost your Diligence.
- New Social Link - Death (Hisano Kuroda): This is a crucial period to initiate the Death Social Link.
- Earliest Availability: The Death Social Link with Hisano Kuroda becomes available starting July 11th.
- Requirements:
- First, accept the quest "Please Find My Pet" from the lady at the Shrine in the Tatsuhime Shrine area. She's usually near the main shrine building.
- Locate the pet cat near the Dojima Residence in the Samegawa Flood Plain. It's typically sitting on the ground near the riverbank entrance.
- Return to the Shrine to complete the quest.
- After completing the quest, Hisano Kuroda will appear on the Samegawa Flood Plain (Riverbank). Talk to her to initiate the Death Social Link.
- Availability: Hisano is typically available on Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays during the day at the Samegawa Flood Plain (Riverbank).
- Benefits: Advancing the Death Social Link provides access to powerful Personas of the Death Arcana, which are often strong in elemental magic or healing. Her story is also deeply moving and provides insight into the themes of loss and acceptance.
- Optimal Dialogue Choices (Example for Rank 1 to 2):
- Rank 1: Just initiate the Social Link.
- Rank 2:
- Hisano: "I just came to visit my husband's grave."
- You: "I see." (+3)
- Hisano: "I'm sorry. I'm just rambling."
- You: "It's okay." (+3)
- Always bring a Death Persona to maximize points gained.
July 15th: The New Suspect - Mitsuo Kubo
Today marks a significant turning point in the investigation. A new character, Mitsuo Kubo, will confess to the murders. However, the Investigation Team will quickly grow suspicious of his claims.
- Story Event: This day is primarily story-driven. You'll witness Mitsuo's confession and the team's immediate doubts.
- Midnight Channel: That night, Mitsuo Kubo will appear on the Midnight Channel, confirming the team's suspicions that he is connected to the TV World. This sets the stage for the next major investigation and dungeon.
July 16th - 17th: Gathering Information & Void Quest Preparation
With Mitsuo Kubo as the new target, your objective is to gather enough information to pinpoint his location within the TV World and unlock the next dungeon, Void Quest.
- Information Gathering: The Investigation Team needs to understand Mitsuo's personality and motivations to accurately predict the nature of his Shadow and the TV World dungeon.
- School: During the day, visit Yasogami High School. Talk to various students in the classrooms, corridors, and even the faculty office. Look for students with speech bubbles above their heads.
- Classroom 2-2: Talk to your classmates (e.g., "Male Student" or "Female Student"). They'll often mention rumors or observations about Mitsuo.
- Practice Building 1F: Talk to students here. You might find someone who knew Mitsuo from a club or class.
- Faculty Office: Speak to teachers like Mr. Kondo or Ms. Sofue. They might offer insights into Mitsuo's academic performance or behavior.
- Central Shopping District: In the Central Shopping District, speak to the residents and shopkeepers.
- Central Shopping District South: Talk to the "Flustered Man" near the bookstore. He might have overheard gossip.
- Central Shopping District North: Talk to the "Gossiping Woman" near the gas station. She is a reliable source of local rumors.
- Aiya's: Sometimes customers or the owner will have tidbits of information.
- Samegawa Flood Plain: Even here, some NPCs might have heard things.
- Key Information: You'll eventually learn about Mitsuo's obsession with video games, his reclusive nature, his desire for attention, and his feelings of being overlooked. This information will lead the Investigation Team to deduce that his "shadow" would manifest in a video game-themed dungeon. You'll specifically hear about his love for retro games and his desire to be the "hero."
- School: During the day, visit Yasogami High School. Talk to various students in the classrooms, corridors, and even the faculty office. Look for students with speech bubbles above their heads.
- Dungeon Unlock: Once you've gathered sufficient information (this usually involves talking to at least 3-4 key NPCs who provide unique insights into Mitsuo), the Investigation Team will decide that Mitsuo's dungeon is ready to be explored. This will unlock the Void Quest dungeon. The team will meet up and discuss their findings, concluding that the TV World reflects Mitsuo's inner world as a classic 8-bit RPG.
- Preparation for Void Quest: This dungeon is a significant step up in difficulty. Ensure you are well-prepared.
- Stock Up: Before entering, visit Shiroku Store to purchase a good supply of healing items (Salves, Soul Drops, Revival Beads) and status ailment cures (Dis-Poison, Dis-Charm, Dis-Mute, Dis-Fear). The enemies in Void Quest frequently inflict various status effects.
- Equipment: Visit Daidara Metalworks to purchase the latest weapons, armor, and accessories. Prioritize defense for armor and attack for weapons. Consider accessories that boost HP/SP or provide resistance to common ailments. Sell old equipment for extra cash.
- Personas: Fuse new Personas that cover a wide range of elemental attacks and resistances. Mitsuo's dungeon will feature enemies with various weaknesses. Pay attention to Personas with strong Physical attacks and those that can inflict status ailments like Poison or Silence.
- Recommended Personas for Fusion:
- King Frost (Emperor): Strong Ice attacks, good for early floors.
- Lamia (Hermit): Fire attacks, often has status ailments.
- Mithra (Temperance): Light attacks, useful against dark-aligned shadows.
- Dis (Magician): Wind attacks, good for covering weaknesses.
- Genbu (Temperance): Ice attacks, good defensive stats.
- Ensure your main character has a diverse set of Personas to cover all elemental types (Fire, Ice, Electric, Wind) and physical attacks.
- Recommended Personas for Fusion:
- Leveling: If you feel under-leveled (around Level 35-40 is a good target for the start of Void Quest), spend some time grinding in the Marukyu Striptease or previous dungeons. The Shadows in Void Quest hit hard and have higher HP pools.
- Team Composition: Consider your party members carefully.
- Yosuke: Essential for Wind damage and healing.
- Chie: Strong Physical attacker, Ice damage.
- Yukiko: Powerful Fire magic and excellent healing.
- Kanji: High Physical damage, Electric magic.
- Teddie: Ice magic, decent healing, but often struggles with SP.
- Rise: Your navigator, providing crucial analysis and support.
- Save SP: Remember to manage your SP carefully. Consider using items like TaP Soda or buying drinks from the vending machines for minor SP recovery.
