Security Level & Alertness
Navigating Palaces and Mementos in Persona 5 Royal requires careful attention to Security Level and Alertness. High security can lead to tougher enemies and more frequent encounters, while low security offers a safer, albeit potentially less rewarding, experience. Understanding how to manage these factors is crucial for efficient dungeon crawling.

Understanding Security Level
The Security Level in Palaces and Mementos represents how aware the cognitive inhabitants are of your presence. It is indicated by a meter in the top-right corner of the screen. The higher the Security Level, the more challenging your exploration becomes:
- Increased Enemy Encounters: More enemies will spawn, and they may be stronger or more numerous.
- More Frequent Patrols: Enemy patrols become more active and harder to avoid.
- Treasure Demon Chance: A higher Security Level increases the chance of rare Treasure Demons appearing.
- Palace Lockdown: If the Security Level reaches 100%, the Palace may go into lockdown, making it impossible to proceed further until you lower it or clear the Palace.
Factors Affecting Security Level
- Being Spotted: If an enemy spots you and initiates combat, your Security Level will increase.
- Failed Negotiations: Botching a negotiation with a shadow can also raise the Security Level.
- Combat Outcomes: Losing battles or having party members knocked out can contribute to increased alertness.
- Environmental Factors: Certain traps or alarms within a Palace can also raise the Security Level.
Managing Security Level
- Stealth: Utilize the environment to your advantage. Crouch behind cover, use Joker's "Third Eye" ability (R1 button) to highlight enemies and interactive objects, and plan your movements to avoid detection.
- Sneak Attacks: Initiating combat from stealth by ambushing enemies sificantly reduces the Security Level increase compared to being detected.
- Safe Rooms: Reaching and activating Safe Rooms resets the Security Level to a low percentage. This is crucial for managing high alert levels.
- Clearing the Palace: Successfully completing a Palace and defeating its ruler will reset the Security Level to zero for that specific dungeon.
- Mementos: In Mementos, the Security Level is more forgiving and resets each time you enter a new block or return to the real world. However, higher levels still increase the chance of rare encounters.
Alertness and Combat
Alertness refers to the immediate state of enemy awareness. If you are detected, enemies will become alerted and pursue you. Successfully ambushing them before they fully detect you can lead to a "Hold-Up" situation, which can be advantageous.
Treasure Demons and High Security
Treasure Demons are rare, high-value enemies that often appear in Palaces and Mementos. They are particularly susceptible to certain elements and offer sificant rewards. Increasing the Security Level can increase the spawn rate of these valuable demons, making it a calculated risk for players aiming to complete their Persona Compendium or acquire powerful items.
For example, in Kamoshida's Palace, the Regent Treasure Demon is weak to Nuclear attacks. If you have a Persona with a Nuclear skill, and the Security Level is high, you have a better chance of encountering it.
