Avoiding Detection & Ambush

Successfully navigating the Palaces and Mementos in Persona 5 Royal often hinges on your ability to avoid detection by Shadows. Employing stealth tactics, utilizing cover, and understanding enemy patrol patterns are key to setting up advantageous ambushes, which grant you the first turn in combat and often allow for immediate status effects or sificant damage, turning a potential disadvantage into a swift victory.

Stealth and Ambush Tactics:

  • Observe Patrols: Study the movement patterns of Shadows. Note their routes, timing, and blind spots. Use Joker's Third Eye to highlight enemies and their vision cones.
  • Utilize Cover: Environmental elements like pillars, crates, and walls serve as cover. Stay behind them to break line of sight and avoid being spotted.
  • Cautious Movement: Hold the stealth button to move slowly and deliberately. This allows for finer control and better reaction time when navigating around enemies.
  • Sound and Distraction: Be mindful of noise. Some actions might alert nearby Shadows. Conversely, you can sometimes use environmental interactions to create distractions and lure enemies away from their posts.
  • Ambush Initiation: Approach a Shadow from behind without entering their direct line of sight. A prompt will appear to initiate an ambush. This grants you the first turn in battle.
  • First Turn Advantage: An ambush typically allows Joker and his party to act first. This is crucial for applying buffs, debuffs, or immediately exploiting enemy weaknesses to trigger a Down state.
  • Status Ailments: Ambushes are excellent opportunities to inflict status ailments like Sleep, Shock, or Burn, effectively neutralizing enemies before they can even attack.
  • Avoidance: If an ambush isn't feasible or you simply wish to conserve resources, focus on moving through areas without engaging enemies. Sometimes, a direct confrontation isn't necessary.

Mastering these stealth and ambush techniques will not only make your dungeon crawls more efficient but also sificantly reduce the difficulty of many encounters by allowing you to dictate the terms of engagement.
