New Game+ Explained in Persona 5 Royal

After completing the main story of Persona 5 Royal, you unlock the highly anticipated New Game Plus (NG+) mode. This feature allows you to start the game over from the beginning while retaining certain elements from your previous playthrough, providing a sificant advantage and the opportunity to experience the story with a new perspective or to achieve goals you may have missed.

NG+ is desed for players who want to achieve 100% completion, tackle higher difficulties with ease, or simply enjoy the game's narrative and mechanics again with a head start. It offers a chance to experiment with different strategies, build relationships more efficiently, and explore content that might have been challenging on a first playthrough.

What Carries Over to New Game+

When you start a New Game Plus, the following elements from your completed save file will be carried over:

  • Player Level: Joker's level remains the same, granting you a sificant advantage in early-game combat.
  • Social Stats: Your Knowledge, Guts, Charm, Kindness, and Proficiency stats are all retained. This allows you to immediately pursue high-level Confidant ranks and unlock advanced activities from the start.
  • Money: All the yen you accumulated carries over, enabling you to purchase powerful Personas, equipment, and items from the beginning.
  • Compendium: Your Persona Compendium, which records all the Personas you've registered, is fully accessible. You can re-summon previously acquired Personas without having to fuse them again, provided you have enough money.
  • Key Items: Certain key items, such as the Eternal Lockpick and items related to Confidant progression, may carry over.
  • Thieves Den Progress: Your progress in the Thieves Den, including unlocked awards and collectibles, is also retained.

What Does NOT Carry Over

  • Story Progression: You will start from the beginning of the story, reliving all the events and dungeons.
  • Confidant Ranks: While your social stats carry over, your actual Confidant ranks reset. You will need to rebuild these relationships, though your high social stats will make this much faster.
  • Palace Progress: All Palaces and Mementos progress are reset.
  • Key Items (Story-Related): Items crucial to story progression that are obtained at specific points will need to be reacquired.
  • Persona Data (Except Compendium): Any Personas you currently have in your party will not carry over; only their record in the Compendium does.

Benefits of Playing New Game+

  • Higher Difficulty Playthroughs: Tackle the game on Merciless or other challenging difficulties with the advantage of high stats and a strong Persona roster.
  • 100% Completion: It becomes sificantly easier to max out all Confidants, social stats, and complete all requests within a single playthrough.
  • Unlockable Content: Certain trophies or achievements might be easier to obtain in NG+, especially those requiring specific actions or high stats.
  • Re-experience the Story: Enjoy the narrative with the knowledge of future events, potentially noticing new details or appreciating character arcs more deeply.

Starting a New Game Plus in Persona 5 Royal is a rewarding experience that allows players to fully explore and master the game's extensive content.
