Abilities & Skills
Understanding and effectively using your party's abilities and skills is paramount to success in Persona 5 Strikers. Unlike the turn-based combat of Persona 5, Strikers features a real-time action combat system where quick thinking and strategic skill usage can turn the tide of any battle. This section will detail how to acquire, manage, and best employ your team's diverse skillset.
Persona Skills
Each Phantom Thief, including Joker, possesses a unique Persona that grants them access to several skills. These skills consume SP (Skill Points) and are crucial for dealing elemental damage, inflicting status ailments, and providing support to your allies.
- Joker's Wild Card Ability: As the Wild Card, Joker can equip and switch between multiple Personas during battle, giving him unparalleled versatility.
- To switch Personas, press the L1/LB button during combat to open the Persona menu, then select the desired Persona with the left analog stick.
- Acquiring New Personas: New Personas can be obtained through Persona Fusions in the Velvet Room or by defeating powerful enemies in Jails and receiving them as drops.
- Skill Cards: These rare items can teach specific skills to any of Joker's equipped Personas. Look for them in treasure chests within Jails or as rewards from certain Requests. For example, a "Fire Boost" Skill Card found in the Shibuya Jail can significantly enhance your Agi-type skills.
- Party Member Unique Skills: Each party member has a fixed Persona with a set skill list that grows as they level up.
- Panther (Ann): Specializes in Fire (Agi) skills and status ailments like Burn. Her High Energy skill can significantly boost the party's attack.
- Skull (Ryuji): Focuses on Electric (Zio) skills and physical attacks. His Charge skill is excellent for setting up powerful follow-up attacks.
- Mona (Morgana): Primarily uses Wind (Garu) skills and healing abilities. Media is invaluable for keeping the party healthy.
- Fox (Yusuke): Excels in Ice (Bufu) skills and critical hit potential. His Hyakka Ryouran can freeze multiple enemies.
- Queen (Makoto): uses Nuclear (Frei) skills and buffs. Her Energy Shower can remove status ailments from the party.
- Noir (Haru): Specializes in Psy (Psi) skills and Gun attacks. Her Heat Riser is a powerful single-target buff.
- Sophie (Sophia): Focuses on Bless (Kouha) skills and support. Her Mediarama is a stronger healing option.
- Wolf (Zenkichi): Uses Almighty and Physical skills. His Bloody Glee increases his critical rate.
Master Arts
Master Arts are character-specific combat techniques unlocked as you use a character in battle. These are not Persona skills but rather enhancements to their regular attack combos. They do not consume SP and are essential for maximizing damage output and crowd control.
- Unlocking Master Arts: Simply play as a character and defeat enemies. The more you fight with them, the faster their Master Arts will unlock. You'll receive a notification when a new Master Art is learned.
- Viewing Master Arts: You can review each character's unlocked Master Arts and their associated button inputs in the "Team" menu under "Master Arts."
- Strategic Use: Master Arts often provide elemental properties to physical attacks, extend combos, or offer unique crowd control options. For example, Joker's Master Arts can infuse his gun attacks with elemental properties based on his currently equipped Persona, while Ryuji's can create powerful shockwaves. Experiment with each character to find their most effective combinations.
Bond Skills
Bond Skills are passive abilities that benefit the entire party. They are unlocked and upgraded using Bond Points, which are earned by completing Requests, progressing the story, and winning battles. Bond Skills are managed through the "Bond" menu.
- Earning Bond Points:
- Requests: Many side quests, especially those from Lavenza in the Velvet Room, offer significant Bond Point rewards.
- Story Progression: Advancing through the main story naturally grants Bond Points.
- Combat: Defeating enemies and completing Jails also contributes to your Bond Point total.
- Recommended Bond Skills for Early Game:
- Joker's Wild: Increases the chance of a Persona stat up during fusion. Prioritize this early to build stronger Personas.
- HP Boost: Increases the maximum HP of all party members. Essential for survivability.
- SP Boost: Increases the maximum SP of all party members. Crucial for prolonged battles and skill usage.
- Metabolism: Reduces the SP cost of all skills. A high-priority skill for conserving SP.
- Bondmaker: Increases the rate at which Bond Points are earned. Invest in this early to accelerate your Bond Skill progression.
- Mid to Late Game Bond Skills:
- Skill Master: Further reduces SP costs. Combine with Metabolism for significant SP savings.
- Ambusher: Increases damage dealt when initiating a battle with a surprise attack. Great for clearing groups quickly.
- Oracle Recovery: Increases the amount of HP and SP recovered from items. Very useful for dungeon crawling.
- Treasure Hunter: Increases the drop rate of items from enemies. Helps in acquiring rare materials and Skill Cards.
- Chef's Touch: Improves the effectiveness of cooked meals. Essential for maximizing the benefits of your culinary efforts.
- Prioritization Strategy: Focus on Bond Skills that enhance your overall combat efficiency and resource management first (HP/SP Boost, Metabolism, Bondmaker). Once those are sufficiently leveled, branch out into damage-increasing or utility skills based on your preferred playstyle. Remember, you can reset Bond Skills at any time in the Bond menu for a small fee, allowing you to reallocate points if needed.
