New Game Plus
Welcome to New Game Plus (NG+), a fresh run through Persona 5 with several advantages carried over from your previous playthrough. This section will detail what transfers, what doesn't, and provide actionable strategies to maximize your efficiency and unlock new achievements, especially if you're aiming for a perfect run or specific Thieves' Den awards.
What Carries Over?
Starting a New Game Plus run grants you significant benefits, making subsequent playthroughs much smoother. Understanding these carry-overs is crucial for planning your strategy:
- Social Stats: Your maxed-out Guts, Charm, Knowledge, Proficiency, and Kindness will remain at Rank 5. This is a massive time-saver, allowing you to immediately access all social links and activities without stat gates.
- Persona Compendium: All Personas you registered in the Compendium are available for summoning from the Velvet Room at their registered price. This includes their levels, skills, and stats at the time of registration.
- Equipment: All weapons, armor, and accessories you possessed at the end of your previous game are transferred to your inventory. This means you'll have powerful gear from the start, making early palace exploration significantly easier.
- Money: All Yen you accumulated will carry over. This is incredibly useful for immediately summoning high-level Personas from the Compendium, purchasing powerful equipment, or investing in Confidant activities.
- Skill Cards: Any Skill Cards you collected will be available.
- Key Items (Specific): Certain key items that unlock special Personas or features carry over, such as the "Omnipotent Orb" accessory (if obtained from the Reaper in Mementos on a previous run) or items related to specific Confidant abilities that grant permanent benefits.
- Thieves' Den Awards: Progress on Thieves' Den awards and any unlocked content (like challenge battles) will persist.
What Does NOT Carry Over?
While many things transfer, some crucial elements reset with each new playthrough:
- Joker's Level: Your protagonist's level resets to 1.
- Confidant Ranks: All Confidant ranks reset to 0. You will need to re-establish relationships with all characters.
- Consumable Items: All consumable items (healing items, attack items, etc.) are reset.
- Mementos Progress: Mementos requests and exploration progress reset.
- Palace Progress: All Palaces reset, requiring you to infiltrate and defeat their rulers again.
- Party Member Levels & Personas: Your party members' levels and their equipped Personas reset.
Early Game NG+ Strategy (April)
With your social stats maxed and powerful gear, the early game in NG+ becomes a breeze. Focus on maximizing Confidant progression and tackling Palaces efficiently.
April 9th - 17th: Auto-Progression & Initial Setup
- April 9th - 17th: These days are largely auto-progression. Pay attention to story beats and introductory dialogues.
- April 12th: During the classroom question, answer "Villains" for a Knowledge boost (though your Knowledge is already maxed, it's good practice).
- April 18th (Day):
- Books: Head to the bookstore in Shibuya and purchase "Pirate Legend." This is an excellent book for boosting Guts, which, while maxed, contributes to the "Bookworm" Thieves' Den award.
- Confidant (Death - Takemi): Initiate or progress Takemi's Confidant. With maxed Guts, you can immediately start her Confidant. Select dialogue options that give the most affinity points. For Rank 1 to 2, choose "Please go easy on me."
- April 18th (Night):
- Crossword Puzzle: Solve the crossword puzzle at Leblanc. The answer is "Semesters." This provides a Knowledge boost.
- Clean Room: Clean your room at Leblanc to gain Kindness points.
April 19th - 24th: Confidant Focus & Kamoshida's Palace
- April 19th (Day):
- Classroom Question: Answer "They're the same" for a Knowledge boost.
- Confidant (Chariot - Ryuji): Progress Ryuji's Confidant. For Rank 2, choose options like "1, 1, any" to maximize affinity.
- April 19th (Night):
- Read Book: Read "Pirate Legend" to continue progress on the book.
- April 20th (Day):
- Train: Read "Pirate Legend" on the train (1/40 books read for the "Bookworm" award).
- Kamoshida's Palace Part 1: Dedicate this day to making significant progress in Kamoshida's Palace. With your carried-over equipment and access to powerful Personas from the Compendium, you should be able to clear a large portion, if not all, of the infiltration route in one go. Focus on collecting all three Will Seeds. Refer to a dedicated Will Seed guide for their exact locations (e.g., a video guide if available).
- April 20th (Night):
- Read Book: Read "Yoncha Walker 04" (2/40 books).
- April 21st (Day):
- Confidant (Death - Takemi): Continue Takemi's Confidant. For Rank 2, choose "1, 1, 1" for optimal affinity.
- April 21st (Night):
- Confidant (Hierophant - Sojiro): Initiate Sojiro's Confidant. For Rank 1, choose "Got it" for affinity.
- April 22nd (Day):
- Books: Purchase "Alluring Dancer" from the bookstore.
- Calling Card: Send the calling card for Kamoshida's Palace.
- April 22nd (Night):
- Read Book: Read "Alluring Dancer."
- April 23rd (Day):
- Kamoshida Boss Fight: Confront and defeat Kamoshida. Your powerful gear and Personas will make this fight much easier than in your first playthrough.
- April 23rd (Night):
- Read Book: Read "Alluring Dancer" (3/40 books).
- April 24th (Day):
- Shopping: Purchase "Share of Spring" from the shopping district.
- Confidant (Chariot - Ryuji): Continue Ryuji's Confidant.
By following this early NG+ strategy, you'll efficiently progress through the story while maximizing your Confidant relationships, setting you up for a highly successful and rewarding second playthrough.
