October

Welcome to October, Phantom Thieves! This month brings new challenges, crucial story developments, and plenty of opportunities to strengthen your bonds and skills. We'll be tackling the next major Palace, navigating exams, and preparing for the trials ahead. Efficient time management is key, so follow this guide closely to maximize your progress.

Early October: Palace Preparation & Social Links

The beginning of October is primarily focused on preparing for the next Palace and advancing your social stats and Confidants. Remember to always carry a book from the school library or a DVD from Shibuya's rental shop to utilize train rides or evenings when you can't meet Confidants.

  • October 1st - October 3rd: These days are generally free for social activities. Prioritize Confidants that are close to ranking up, especially those that offer battle advantages (e.g., Hifumi Togo for Shogi, Chihaya Mifune for Fortune). If you're behind on social stats, consider studying at the school library (Knowledge), working at the Crossroads Bar (Proficiency/Charm), or visiting the Big Bang Burger (Guts/Proficiency).
  • Mementos Trip (Optional, Early October): If you have a backlog of Mementos requests, consider dedicating a day or two early in the month to clear them. This is an excellent way to earn money, gain experience, and gather valuable items. Ensure you have a good stock of healing items like Soul Food or Snuff Soul before venturing deep.
  • Item Stock-Up: Before the next Palace, visit the Untouchable Airsoft Shop in Shibuya. Stock up on essential healing items (Mediarama, Revival Bead), SP recovery items (Coffee, Curry if you've unlocked it), and any new equipment that might be available. check the vending machines for cheap SP recovery drinks!

Okumura's Palace: The Spaceport of Greed

Following the exams, you'll begin your infiltration of Okumura's Palace. This Palace is known for its unique environmental puzzles and a challenging boss fight. Aim to complete the Palace in as few days as possible to maximize your free time.

  • Palace Entry & Initial Exploration: The Palace will become accessible around October 15th. The initial areas involve navigating through airlocks and dealing with robotic Shadows. Pay attention to the ventilation shafts and security cameras.
  • Air Lock Puzzles: You'll encounter several airlock puzzles that require you to activate switches in a specific order to open paths. Look for clues in the environment or listen to your teammates' hints.
  • Security Levels: Be mindful of the security level. If it gets too high, you'll be forced to leave. Utilize stealth and surprise attacks to keep it low.
  • Mini-Bosses: Expect encounters with stronger robotic Shadows that act as mini-bosses. Exploit their weaknesses (often Electric or Nuclear) to gain an advantage. Ensure your party members have Personas with these affinities.
  • Treasure Room Access: The path to the Treasure Room involves a complex puzzle involving moving platforms and environmental manipulation. This will likely take a full day of infiltration.
  • Calling Card & Boss Fight: Once the Treasure Route is secured, send the calling card. The boss fight against Okumura is notorious for its difficulty, particularly the waves of robotic enemies.

Okumura Boss Strategy

The Okumura boss fight is a multi-phase battle against waves of robotic subordinates before facing Okumura himself. Here's a breakdown:

  • Phase 1-4 (Robots): You'll face waves of robotic employees. Each wave has a specific elemental weakness. The key is to defeat all robots in a wave within two turns to prevent them from fleeing and being replaced.
    • Wave 1 (Green Robots): Weak to Wind and Curse. Use Mona's Garudyne/Magarudyne and Joker's Curse skills.
    • Wave 2 (Blue Robots): Weak to Fire and Bless. Use Ann's Agidyne/Maragidyne and Joker's Bless skills.
    • Wave 3 (Yellow Robots): Weak to Ice and Nuke. Use Yusuke's Bufudyne/Mabufudyne and Makoto's Frei/Mafrei.
    • Wave 4 (Red Robots): Weak to Electric and Psy. Use Ryuji's Zio/Mazio and Haru's Psio/Mapsio.
  • Phase 5 (Big Bang Burger Employee): A single, larger robot. It has no elemental weaknesses but takes increased damage from Technical attacks (e.g., using a Psy skill on a foe inflicted with Mental Ailments like Confuse or Rage). Focus on strong physical attacks and buffs/debuffs.
  • Phase 6 (Okumura & Executive Director): Okumura will summon an Executive Director robot. This robot is extremely dangerous, capable of inflicting severe damage. Focus all your attacks on the Executive Director, exploiting its weakness to Curse. Once it's down, Okumura becomes vulnerable. Unleash your strongest attacks, including Baton Passes, to finish him quickly.
  • Recommended Party: For the robot waves, a flexible party is crucial. Consider Joker, Morgana, Ann, and Makoto for broad elemental coverage. For the final phases, swap in Haru for Psy damage and Ryuji for Electric if needed.
  • Key Items: Bring plenty of Snuff Soul or SP Adhesive 3 accessories to maintain SP throughout the fight. Attack/Defense/Accuracy/Evasion buffs and debuffs are vital for survival and maximizing damage.

Late October: Aftermath & Free Time

After successfully completing Okumura's Palace, the latter half of October offers significant free time for personal development and Confidant progression.

  • Confidant Focus: Prioritize any Confidants you wish to max out before the end of the game. Remember that certain Confidants have specific availability or prerequisites. For example, Kawakami (Temperance) can be called at night for various services, while Yoshida (Sun) is only available on Sundays.
  • Social Stat Grinding: If any social stats are lagging, dedicate time to activities that boost them. Reading books, watching DVDs, working part-time jobs, or visiting specific locations can help.
  • Mementos (Post-Palace): New Mementos requests will likely appear after the Palace. Consider another trip to clear them and gather more resources.
  • Fishing (Ichigaya): If you haven't already, try fishing at Ichigaya. It's a relaxing activity that can boost your Proficiency and yield valuable items or money if you sell your catch.
  • Crossword Puzzles: check the Shibuya Underground Mall for crossword puzzles. Completing them grants a Knowledge boost.
  • October 30th/31st: These days will typically involve story progression and setup for the next major arc. Enjoy the narrative developments!

October is a demanding month, but by following this guide, you'll successfully navigate its challenges and emerge stronger, ready for what November brings!
