While the original Persona 5 had its own set of conditions, Royal introduces new Confidants and deadlines that are crucial for experiencing the complete story, including the third semester and its associated Palace. Follow these steps carefully to ensure you don't miss out!
Mandatory Confidant Ranks for the True Ending
The most critical requirement for the True Ending revolves around a specific new Confidant. Failing to meet this will result in an earlier, less complete ending.
- Councillor Confidant (Dr. Maruki): You MUST reach Rank 9 with Dr. Maruki before the deadline of November 18th. This is non-negotiable. Dr. Maruki is available on specific days at Shujin Academy after school. Prioritize spending time with him whenever he is available, as his availability becomes limited later in the game. Reaching Rank 9 will automatically progress to Rank 10 on November 18th, triggering the necessary events for the third semester.
Highly Recommended Confidant Ranks for the Full Experience
While not strictly mandatory for unlocking the True Ending path itself, these Confidants are essential for experiencing all the new content Persona 5 Royal has to offer, including additional story scenes, character development, and the full scope of the third semester's narrative. We strongly advise prioritizing these alongside Dr. Maruki.
- Faith Confidant (Kasumi Yoshizawa): Aim to reach Rank 5 with Kasumi before the deadline of December 18th. Her Confidant will automatically progress further during the third semester if this condition is met. Kasumi is often available in Kichijoji or at school.
- Justice Confidant (Goro Akechi): Strive to reach Rank 8 with Goro Akechi before the deadline of November 24th. Similar to Kasumi, his Confidant will advance automatically during the third semester if you've met this requirement. Akechi can typically be found in Kichijoji or at the Jazz Club.
General True Ending Considerations (Original P5 Requirements)
Beyond the new Royal-specific Confidants, you still need to avoid triggering any "Bad Endings" or "Game Over" scenarios from the original Persona 5. These generally involve making specific dialogue choices or failing to complete Palaces within their deadlines.
- Avoid Bad Endings: Throughout the game, you will occasionally be presented with critical dialogue choices, particularly during interrogation scenes or when confronted by certain characters.
